LG V20 and Removable Batteries

Me being honest is.. I've never shattered a phone or screen yet (or the back of a phone) during my entire smartphone carrier.. but I do use cases. The worst I've done is scratch a screen.. got sand on it and wiped it off on my shirt without thinking :(

This is a a good thing for you then... However there are millions of less fortunate folks that haven't had as much good luck.

The majority position of the AC Nerds is that we'd prefer a strong, grippy back to devices, such as well done soft touch plastic, rubber or leather.

I loved the Note 4 design. Still premium feel with the metal side frame, 2.5d curved glass but screen still flat, a nice faux leather pattern on the back, and best of all the back was still removable. I prefer grip/durability over looks. Metal still better choice than glass IMO.

Yep and the millions of others are usually way more harsh on their phone versus me hence tons of broken screens (even if you took glass bodies out of the equation) :).

True. I accidentally dropped my S7 Active 6 feet onto hard tiles while in the shower and luckily it was fine thanks to the military grade spec. If it were all glass, would've been a different story.

Let us not so easily forget all the bent iPhones and HTC M8's with metal unibody designs that got bent in people's pockets.

Very glad someone like JerryRigEverything pushes manufactures to build tougher devices. The V20 did pass the test except for the camera glass. V20 is military grade rated.

Broke my Galaxy S4 once, first device I broke. Dropped it with a case on, inside lcd screen broke. Payed $500 for a new one. Always bought military grade or durable phones since (Galaxy Active series, now V20).

Are you a wall hugger?

While not specifically aimed at the v20 users in general, but still could apply in some cases...

In our discussions here, most all of us love the removable battery our v20 offers. Most all of the v20 users know how easy it is to use this feature, without having to resort to the other various types of of quick charging or extended battery packs..

No my reason for wanting to know this is to see just how many people are are switching their batteries as opposed to having to suffer the fate of being a wall hugger.

Incase someone doesn't know what I mean.. Please Google search Samsung galaxy s5 wall hugger commercial.. And actually read what this phone was capable of while you are at it... It will dispell the notion of needing a sealed back phone to be water resistant and probably give you a good chuckle at the same time at Apples expense..

Yeah I am very fortunate that I haven't broken any ... yet.

Military grade is definitely nice but it doesn't mean it is indestructible. I am so glad I talked my buddy into a TG Screen Protector for his V20 because .. He broke it. Luckily it was just the screen protector but I knew him working in the warehouse at UPS would put his phone into harms way haha.

I have access to a charger almost always, so no I don't swap batteries. I don't even have a spare. I'm still against sealed batteries though due to nothing but bad luck with them. A lot of things can offset the inconvenience of a sealed battery. There is no offsetting it when the battery itself goes bad.

Honestly, I wouldn't have my V20 if the Moto XPE had a user-replaceable battery which was seriously degrading after only 1.5 years. (I don't count having to do phone surgery as "user-replaceable".) If I could have that phone would last me 3+ years. We're not rich enough to pop for a new phone every year or so for my entire family. That is why I want replaceable batteries on my phones.

If for nothing else it is nice to bring the phone back to full capacity as it ages. Having said that I have two different extended batteries. 6700 and 9300. I intend to make full use of them st Disney next week.

I totally understand you. The last two phones I had were Samsung and they had sealed batteries. Already saw a lost in battery performance in less than a year. Some people can afford to upgrade often, but not everyone. I used to work at Best Buy and my recommendation for poor battery performance is to replace them. Now I can't really say that anymore.

I have a Droid Maxx that still holds a decent charge.... 3500mAh

Traveling and vacationing are perfect examples of when you would need a removable/upgradable battery. Went on a trip one time and my phone died half way through the day... Had to go into the city and ask someone at Starbucks for a charger...

All total I have two stock batteries, the 6700 and 9300. I also have 10,000mah juice pack that high speed charges. I don't plan on carrying everything. I'll see which configuration works best.

True, however most of us here in AC are tech nerds however (which is a small amount of the population). Think about everyone else like the average American Joe who goes to Best Buy for advice.

I lost a friend who went to Best Buy for advice instead of asking me for help - when he asked me to fix Best Buy's "work", I helped him, but then we were done.

I'll have 3 batteries and 2 charging cradles next week and I will order 2 more before the end of summer.

I have no plans on changing devices, anytime soon.. Even though I could because the cost isn't the issue.

Now if by some stretch of the imagination LG has been hiding the fact that the v30 does indeed have a removable battery.. then that is a entirely different story, especially if they have really improved it a lot and not take anything else away..
