AC Question

This post is a split between my impression of the new iPhone and a decision I am struggling with on going to the lg v20.

I got tired of the lg v10 due to bootlooping and the battery issues.- and I did possess/upgrade to the note 7 until the recall started to occur-

Lg v20 would of been my preference but with the poor roll out and lack of info regarding its release date I settled for an iPhone 7plus (black) 256gb memory.

Now that the lgv20 is out I am torn as to whether or not to go get it.

I was a huge fan of the LG v10-minus the horrific battery life. the snap dragon 808 was a little slow for my liking and the screen did run colder than I liked.
However- Qslide and split screen, as well as the second screen are awesome features in my mind.

Here are my arguments for the IPhone:

The iPhone for me for the first time impresses me.
(I had the 6s plus for a while-it was average and seemed overpriced, the lg v10 was more attractive for reasons above, so I switched)

The new 7 plus has outstanding battery life: 3 hours of screen time you tubing music videos and I am at 70% battery life. I am a heavy user- and this is a big plus

The screen is really good- incredibly accurate color wise- and when viewing the lg v20 side by side (at@t version) both phones on auto brightness - the IPhone 7 was brighter- in that store....obviously I didn't test 20 lighting scenarios- However, the iPhone screen is really good and the details and real world colors are strong to me.

The speed of the iPhone is stunning at least to me- it's faster app to app than my wife's S7 edge and was above my note 7 (in my un professional hands and testing experiments)

IOS 10 is good- I really like the lock screen and apps that are open to use while the phone is locked. force touch is cool as well- although gimmicky.

LG obviously has it's perks
- Split screen/qslide
- second screen
- music that isn't tied to apple
- freedom of apps and customization in the home screens.

So I was hoping some users here could weigh in on there thoughts on the two devices...and why you like the lg v20 so much or prefer it- because we have a choice and I'm kicking around the idea of jumping to the lg v20.

I know this is an android forum- IPhone is not really where my loyalties lie- but if LG would have sucked less and given out some info on the v20- I would have likely waited, or at least been less angry at them. The iPhone was at the store- one of two or three in the city I was told- and I gave it a go.

Thanks for reading- and hopefully providing some good insight.

Battery life is a non-issue with the LG, as you can carry a spare...

I'm currently on an HTC m9, but planning to move to the LG asap (but don't own it yet). I like the manual camera interface and image quality (I'm a photographer), and have handled store demos and like the feel and software, which was very intuitive for me.

I have hated iOS since a miserable 18 months with a 3gs so can't comment there lol

The iPhone 7 Plus is a stellar device. Fast, fluid, H20 resistant, display, iOS, cameras, battery life, iMessage, and ecosystem. Strong points indeed. A compelling package.

The LG. V20.

I'm biased, I love this phone. It's a power house. It's industrial build. The audio. The displays. The cameras. Android Nougat. Battery life. Removable battery. Removable storage. Did I mention that display?

You can't go wrong with the iPhone 7+ but this girl prefers the V20 every day.

I do not own either an Apple nor LG device. So can be somewhat objective.

But just go to swappa for a second & look at LG V10 & iphone 6s plus in the recently sold section.
Last years phones one year later can be a good indicator of where the V20 & iP7 will sell for next year(within reason).
Factor in what you would have to spend to switch to the V20. Let the math decide if you think it is worth it
to switch over or stick with what you have for one year.

My advise is use what best fits how you want to use a phone.

For myself the V20 over the iPhone any day because of the audio capabilities. It has a head phone jack with a quad dac, that sounds utterly amazing when paired with good head phones. Throw in a lossless audio format and you are golden. I was unsure of the second screen at first but damn it has grown on me. As far as camera that's the least important thing to me. The display on this phones is absolutely amazing, I honestly hate the Samsung displays and prefer the more natural look of this display.

To the me advantage of the iPhone is iMessage, I have yet to find a messenger that even comes close to iMessage.

Not really considering apple has and always will have a better resell value than any Android phone ever made.

Personally..

I honestly don't have a clue as to what you like so I can only say what I would do.

If I paid (or are paying a buttload for the iPhone) and I would be hesitant to loose any money from switching.

If you like the apple ecosystem and utilize it easily I don't understand why you want to switch.

Having the latest hardware if you do not utilize it is just bragging rights IMHO.

There are many reasons to stay (provided) you are satisfied with it, and really no compelling reason to switch and loose money.

On the flip side of this, if you have needs that aren't being met easily with the iPhone, then some of the things Android (and the v20) can give makes a lot of sense.

Personal preferences matter a lot to me and I feel that Android phones in general fulfill 98% of what I want it to do.

Here is another thing most people forget about when they go comparing phones.. FM radio availability. If you like to listen to FM, you will not be able to with the iPhone, and many Android phones.. But there are several including the v20 that you can use. I hate the fact that I don't have this on my current phone.

If you are totally locked into cloud based listening and video streaming what you have now is about the best, if you aren't then the LG is a much better choice IMHO.

One thing to check out before you switch is to make sure that you are getting what you need first before jumping .

SD card.. Do you need it?

Removable battery.. Does it matter?

IR blaster.. Ever use this.. Do you think that you will?

Hi end DACs and amps.. Are you a audiophile?

You can compare what the phone has to your iPhone and see what you need and what you want...

If I had to choose.. I would take the v20 over the iPhone because of Android alone.. I really don't like ios and how things are done with it, but you need to decide what matters most to you.. and take everything into account..

I will suggest that you wait until the non carrier branded version is available next month though if possible if you do decide to switch , namely because of what the different carriers do to gimp their offerings and what bloat is installed on them.

Hard decision for you..and I have only touched on a few of the differences between them.. You have to figure out what you prefer...

If the V20 display is a concern, you can calibrate the display in settings to your preference.

This is my issue with the V20 as stated above ^^ there has been multiple problems reported on this V20 forum mostly smaller issues but still problems , it's just not that stable of a platform yet being new the official release day was just on the 29th things are just coming to light , every one wants this phone to be the N7 predecessor but it's not.

My wife returned her V20 yesterday over the issues you see posted here , and just the uncertainty of the camera lens and having to pay to get that fixed on a new phone.

Now I have been a android guy for years but find my self on the iPhone 7 plus , there isn't as much glitter or customization but I have 0 problems on day 15 everything just seems to work better.
And all my pics appearing automatically on my computer isn't bad either.

If the iPhone had bigger display, sd card, removable battery, Flash support (still prolific and works great with Android), file drag and drop, app and UI theme customization, emulators, IR blaster and more audio/video codec support, I would choose iPhone too :) ;)

If none of that matters (it does not to a lot), I can see the appeal.

Have you seen the iPhone forum on macrumors....if you think the lg v20 has multiple problems you really need to see that it's no comparison to the problems they are having with the iPhone 7 and plus

Furthermore most people are not having true issues with the lg v20.....every manufacturer will have some defected devices which is typical of a new product. .....

I have 2xV20s and a V10. Some people have issues with both. I'm not thinking I'm going to have the one issue a few folks here have reported with the camera lens. My phones are cased and I'll be leaving the lens protector on (figure they put it there for a reason😉).

Some have reported boot loops with the V10. Only time will tell.

Nothing is w/out some reported issue. I also have an S7e and some report that the paint chips off the home button.

I say all that to say this, if I worried about all the issues some people report this girl would have a hard time having even one phone.

I have mobile insurance.

Get the device(s) you like, protect them as best you reasonably can, have insurance and enjoy what they can do for you.

With that in mind the V20 is my favorite.

Try walking into an apple store with out an appointment for the genius bar. At least a 2-4 hour wait every single time. Speaking for just myself half of all iPhones I have owned were defective out of the box. That's every iPhone from the 5 to 6s including 3 carrier changes.

I have only ever had one Samsung phone that had an issue out of the box. My HTC 10 is perfect my lg v20 is absolutely amazing.

This will never be a note 7 replacement 2 different companies with 2 different visions for a phone.

Stick what works for you, I absolutely love iOS 10 it think it's the best mobile os apple has put out to date. It doesn't really work with what I want out of a phone. It's fantastic and had apple not dropped the dedicated headphone jack I would be typing this on an iphone7 plus haha
