LG V40 Updates after I get one?

I am planning to replace my V20 with a V40. I am shopping now for a suitable used Verizon V40.
How will I be able,to get updates, security patches or system upgrades for the V40? Is it an automatic process after activation?

Assuming that device still receives future updates it would be automatic. Depending on when it was last used it may have most of the prior updates.

Verizon V40's will get Android 10 system updates once they get on the Verizon network. It's automatically pushed on the phone if Android Pie is detected on it.
