LGL22C process.gapps problem

My son has a month old LG Power (LGL22C). Recently he was bombarded by the "process.gapps. has stopped" error. Instead of bringing the problem to me, he decided to do a factory reset on it. Now it's stuck trying to set it back up. Between having to continuously hit ok on the error screen to get to a loading screen that says " Just a sec..." it won't get past this screen. I thought maybe I would flash it, but can't seem to get it into download mode, nor have I been able to locate the firmware for it... Any help would be greatly appreciated! TIA

Did he try to root it?
also the only trace of firmware for the device is the source code @ OpenSource Code Distribution
