So here's what happened: My phone was totally fine till ten minutes ago. I opened Spotify and the whole thing froze. I couldn't even lock my phone.

I waited a minute or two and then he's the power button down until the phone started to reset. Three white lines flashed across the screen- one in the middle, one at the top, and one at the bottom.

When my phone restarted, the light line stayed at the top.

I've restarted in safe mode, and it stays. You can't see it in a screen shot.

I know I've seen a few other threads here about light bands. Did anyone's resolve itself? Is my phone borked? This is my fourth p2. I really don't want a 5th.

TL;DR light band at top of screen. Will it go away by itself?

Is this just something I never noticed? Something that I never noticed that's going to drive me absolutely nuts now?

You might try changing your screen image. If it goes away, it would have been part of the image you're using.

Are you talking about the very faint light at the top of the Notification/Status bar? That looks like light bleed, which is pretty typical for LCD screens.

It isn't part of the image and apparently it's software related. It only happens on the home screen.

So you guys definitely don't have this on yours?

Pixels don't have lcd screens....

My bad - I assumed that the Pixel 2 (I don't own one of those) had an LCD screen since all the whining was about the POLED screen on the Pixel 2 XL (which I do own).

Support said that it's a hardware issue and I'm getting a refurb replacement. Pixel 2 number 5, and this one is a refurb- the others weren't. Wish me luck.

Regardless of what a support person says, my experience would eliminate any possibility of a hardware issue.

I'm going to wait til the refurb shows up, then factory reset the one I have with the light band and see if it goes away. If it does, great. I'll send back the refurb they sent me. I can't bring myself to do it right now though, and they didn't ask me to since they think it's a hardware issue.

Of course that's the sensible thing to do. Most support people are trained to follow a script. If a problem doesn't fit the script, they're clueless.

The subforum you are pointing to doesn't prove that it isn't a hardware issue.

I don't have the Pixel 2 any longer, but I thought that switching to a different launcher solved the issue? I may be mistaken on that, my apologies if so.

Probably a bad batch of Samsung OLED screens.
