Light sensor not working with matte Ghost Armor

Hey all,

So I had Ghost Armor put onto my G3 the other day. I've had it on a couple of devices and like it a lot, plus the warranty on it is nice. Anyway, I initially grabbed the clear Ghost Armor but ended up going back to the kiosk after about 48 hours since there were some imperfections in the application (little bit of dust under the screen protector, a small bubble in 2 spots). So I had them reapply a new one, this time going with the matte (never had the matte before, but it looks awesome, and is nice for eliminating the reflections outdoors). So I noticed after having the matte armor put on that my light sensor is no longer working on the phone (auto brightness). It seems strange that it is not working since there is actually a cut out in the armor where the light sensor is (I'm assuming it's the little circle closest to the camera on the front?). Was working perfectly until the matte armor went on the phone. I know for sure that it is not working because I downloaded Lux and you can grab readings in different light levels with the sensor. It doesn't matter what level of lighting I'm in, indoors or out, there is always just a flat reading of 1lx in the app. With Lux I can use the front camera as a sensor instead of the actual sensor and it works normally auto adjusting, so that's a plus. Just a little confused as to why the sensor would not be working when it isn't actually covered? Unless that little circle actually isn't the sensor and I'm way off base...I've tried a soft reset, pulling the battery, etc. Nothing seems to get it working. I don't really want to pull the Ghost Armor off since it is on there perfectly and the camera work around with Lux is fine. Anyone have any ideas?

According to this review, there should be two sensors in between the front-facing camera and the earpiece. The sensor closer to the earpiece is the proximity sensor and the one closer to the camera is the ambient light sensor. Which one corresponds to the cutout? Maybe the have a cutout for the wrong sensor. Or maybe they both need a cutout.

They are both cut out.

And the cutout is exactly located over the sensor? Could it be a little off?

It's possible it could be slightly off on the light sensor by the tiniest of margins, but the proximity sensor is clearly 100% uncovered. I'm also noticing issues with the proximity sensor now. During a phone call there is a delay from when you put the phone to your ear to when the screen fades out, and the screen does not come back on when the phone is moved back away from the ear. Unless this is normal behavior for the phone...it's certainly not the way the G2 works (I also have a G2).

I can actually see a very tiny white spec inside the light sensor which seems to move around when I move the phone, maybe it's a hardware issue...hope not though.

Is there any residue on the glass over the sensors? Maybe while applying the screen protector, some residue was left behind overlying the sensors.

I'm actually fairly certain now that this is a hardware issue. I've download two apps (CPU z and a proximity sensor app that I can't remember the name of). In CPU z under the "sensors" section, it shows no activity on my phone. As if the phone has no sensors at all... In the other app, it also fails to register any activity from the proximity sensor. I've also now tried removing the ghost armor entirely and it did nothing.

I'm probably going to bring the phone in, needless to say I am very disappointed right now.

I wonder if the people who applied the armor might have damaged the sensor. Maybe they applied too much pressure in that area?

I suppose it's possible, though I did watch them do it and it didn't seem like they were being rough at all with the phone. They use a bit of liquid when applying the screen protector, I'm worried that might be what did it.

Just an FYI for anyone interested - it was definitely a hardware issue with the phone. Rogers is sending me out a new G3 and I will be returning the current one (after some serious hassle that I won't get into). Rogers tech support confirmed that the proximity sensor and light sensor failing is an ongoing and common issue with the G3 (perhaps only the model they sell as I haven't seen this reported much, if at all).
