Light Sensor

Hi,
I bought the G5 (unlocked) a week ago and I'm satisfied of it despite several "not-so-positive" reviews that I've read on the net.
As for the battery, after the first full charge, it lasted a little more than 86 hours, with 4h30 of SOT, almost 3h of calls, some video (FullHD and 4K), data connection turned on only when needed (I don't keep it turned on the whole time).
I'm aware of the fact that the battery won't always last all that time, but I've never "scored" that time with any of my previous phones (Galaxy S2 and Asus Zenfone 2 DeLuxe).
Instead, I'm less satisfied of the light sensor (brightness on "auto") behaviour...it seems it's not so precise as, for example, in the S2 or even in the Zenfone 2.
On a dark room the brightness falls to 0% while 10/15% would be fine and on a bright room (or outside) it's often too high...so if I switch the "auto" option off and then "on" again, it sets the screen brightness to a right value.
Is it a bug? Solution?
The software version is the latest 10e.
Thank you, regards.

Roberto

I've used Lux auto brightness on all my LG phones for that very reason.
There are similar apps in the play Store that are probably just as good... much better than the stock auto brightness.

I get this exact same thing happening to me all week on my New LG G5 ive had to switch Auto off as its just way to dark to use never had this problem on any other phone though they've all been about the same on Auto.

I've made a test of the sensor and it works as expected, so I think that it's something related to the UI and the (badly) implemented algorithm to manage it.
I hope they will fix it with an update or with Nougat.
In the meantime I installed "Velis Auto Brightness" and it seems it works very good.

Have you done something to fix it or did it fix by itself?

I just played with it till I found the sweet spot. Mine drops down to 18% in total darkness and 69% in normal lighting conditions like at work or on a train. It takes a long time to drop down when going dark but snaps back pretty quickly when it needs to brighten. I'm also tempted to say an update cured it but don't that for sure....I'm on Verizon.

Now I'm using the above app and it is working well, it's always a bit under the right level (for my "taste") but it's much better than with the default OS "auto" brightness, the battery drain of the app is not significant.

You can train it to brighten to where you want it. Just keep sliding it to where you want it and eventually it'll figure out how bright you like it.

I forgot to mention to do this in every type of room lighting scenario and it will figure it out for all lighting conditions.

It took me to figure this out. You don't need another app.

For three months I kept the adaptive brightness shut off. Now I leave it on.

Also... It doesn't take very long at all to train.

I didn't know about this "feature", it's not declared on the official manual...or am I wrong?
