All is good on my Note 4 but the speaker volume and quality is not as good as I like for media and speakerphone calls. I am trying to find a phone with better speaker(s) and still good performance, display, camera, and battery life. Does not have to be a flagship but do not want to downgrade too much in these areas. Your suggestions much appreciated.

This may or may not be a viable solution for you, but my daughter just purchased a really cheap Bluetooth speaker for about $20. It's quite small, has decent battery life (8 hours or so of use) and quite good sound.

Anything in a larger external speaker will give you much better quality without sacrificing other phone features.

This assumes, of course, that you don't mind carrying around an extra device. :)

Thanks much. Would rather have better speaker in phone but if you have a link to the speaker I will take a look.

Apologies, I don't recall the brand, but they are all going to do far better than a built-in phone speaker.

Thinking about it a little more I'd look for one that has a mic as well, so on speaker calls it has the tools to cancel out its own sound.

That's just an example of what to look for since it has a mic and is designed for speakerphone calls as well as media, and is well-reviewed. I don't own one of those specifically.

Putting the speaker on the back of the phone is a major design flaw on Samsung's part and I'm surprised that they continue to roll out new phones without adjusting the speaker location. Not to mention that the volume and quality of the speaker isn't very good. I guess that it's something that most people overlook because all of the other positives of the phone outweigh this 1 negative (myself included). Laying your phone face down helps, since it points the speaker up towards you, but this doesn't do any good if you're trying to talk and use the phone at the same time. As suggested, search for a small, portable bluetooth speaker. There's no shortage of them on amazon. You could also pick up a bluetooth earpiece, which would be much easier to carry around with you. This also allows you to keep your conversations private rather than broadcasting through a speaker (if that's important to you).
