I'm not close to wanting to replace my OS with a custom ROM yet, but I can't help but notice that only the unlocked versions of the G6 have been able to get Lineage on it.

Normally this would make sense, except that the V20, both unlocked and all carrier versions are able to put Lineage on it. I wonder what the difference is here? Really hope I'll be able to do this, so I can keep getting updates far beyond end of life of this phone.

What's Lineage? I have a V20 and have been wishing to put a custom ROM

It's what Cyanogenmod used to be. I'm not well versed in all the custom roms, but lineage is definitely well developed and constantly updated. I have it installed on my Nexus 9, and have it installed on me 4 year old OnePlus One, and it still runs as good as my G6. Really solid stock Android ROM.

Ok cool I have cyanogen on my HP TouchPad. I'll have to look more into this before I sell the V20 and get the V30

Not necessarily... Just need to unlock the bootloader.
Yep, but depending on the model, you have to jump through hoops to get there. TMobile's LG stuff can usually be unlocked using the same adb commands as a Nexus. But on some Verizon models, you need to use one of a couple of janky flash tools to load a rooted system image, THEN use something like flashify to load TWRP, etc.

What a mess.

Definitely is. OnePlus devices, in my opinion, have become the new "Nexuses". They are the easier to unlock and put on a custom ROM.
