Hey all, just thought I'd throw this out there, I hope this is okay. I myself have wondered about this a few times, and I know there have been more than a few people wondering about Linux and Android together, so I thought I'd make this post.

My husband has been writing a blog about Linux and how to install it on a machine, and just recently made a post about how to install the Android SDK. You can feel free to skip that one if you'd like, obviously, but I thought the Linux one might at least be helpful. I was planning on contributing sometime soon with a post about SBFing in Linux and a few other things, since honestly, I think doing things with the X is a lot easier in Linux than in Windows once you get the hang of the operating system. The guide is pretty simple and easy to follow. (Don't forget to start at the bottom of the posts! :) I know a lot of us are busy and don't have time to spend 8 hours searching on the internet for how to do some of these things, and we thought it might be a good idea to put all of them in one place.

I just thought I'd put it out there since it's directly related to what a lot of us do, or are maybe interested in doing. Again, hope this is okay! :)

Thanks for the post. I use Ubuntu 11.04 and can't stand windows any more, lol. Works great with android!

Fixed that for you ;)

From what I've heard flashing SBFs is also hit or miss under Windows. And it's so much easier to just run an SSH server and VNC server on my phone than to plug in that USB cable. It also probably lowers my risk of electrocuting myself. There you have it, install Linux because it'll save your life!

Ha :D Loved that. So true. I actually had no idea there was a whole section of the forums devoted to Linux. I'm a dummy! I'm excited now, going to go play over there after I install .596 today!

I've never gotten RSDlite to work. Would always reach 100% and fail.
Knoppix to the rescue. Never touching RSD again. adb works great on my wintel box though.

I have never once had any luck with RSD Lite either. I actually just contributed a detailed post to the blog link in the OP how to SBF using Linux because of that...so much easier. I goofed my install of .596 yesterday trying to do an advanced restore of data and ended up SBFing, and figured why not write it up. I really enjoy Linux because I don't have to fight with it to get things to work the way I do with Windows. I think the problem is it's just hard for people to jump into at first.

Edit: in case anyone wanted it, here's the link to the SBF explanation: SBFing in Linux
