I'm supposed to receive the phone tomorrow via FedEx. This will be my first Nexus device, so I'm naturally excited. Does anyone have a list of all the apps that come installed on the phone out of the box? Which apps, processes and files can safely be removed without affecting performance? What are the most important things I should know and do once I get it in hand?

Thanks in advance!

Not a whole lot since its a Nexus device. Just Google newstand, books, photos, music or any of those that you don't need from Google. Those are the only apps I have disabled.

I am heavily into the Google infrastructure and pretty much every single app that is preinstalled is being used. The only exception is news stand. Such a fantastic phone if you are a heavy Google user. Literally 0 bloat.

This. There isn't much to uninstall since it doesn't come with mostly the bare bones of Android.

I just installed my apps and am using the device. It's been awesome so far.

google removed a lot of bloats from Nexus 6p. the device dont even have google+ app.

the apps are bare minimal and essential.

I don't use Gmail but the app can't be disabled if adding an Exchange account.

Same here, there's not really anything to remove so just disable the ones you know you won't use. For me it was just newsstand and books. I think. The weird thing is that I can't even remember now if I had them in the first place and uninstalled them or not lol.
Just out of curiosity since you also asked about processes, are you looking for processes you can disable because you want to try to squeeze as much extra speed out of the OS as you can? If so, don't even worry about it. I'm happy to say you don't even have to bother. Just get rid of any apps you know you'll never use and you're all set.

I kept them on and got used to TiBackup to freeze but I don't find the need to root my phone. I forgot stock Google can disable apps. I disabled them but didn't do much. Phone is still buttery smooth.

The reason I ask is because I've seen people asking about seeing apps that are possibly draining battery, and it seems that uninstalling certain apps leave residual files behind. So I wonder if it's a good idea.

What apps were you reading about?

Changing Location settings to "battery saving" has really helped my battery life. I haven't uninstalled anything yet.

It's a Nexus, not another Android with tons of skins and carrier/manufacture bloatware.

I get 4-5 SOT without issues. Even with crappy service (constantly going from no service to 1x, I made it though the day while I played a few games to kill the time. 8-4:30 was that time frame. I could of put it in airplane mode but I just wanted to see and I got 2 hours SOT. But that's rare. The lowest I ever got way 3 hours SOT. I was playing Modern Combat testing it out as well as some other games.
