Load apps on smartwatch from smartwatch

Is it possible to launch an app on an Android phone such as Google Maps remotely, for example from the smartphone? Currently apps send notifications to the smartwatch from apps but to open an app I have to use the touchscreen on the phone.

Not YET. Android Wear 2.0 is supposed to include that ability

It is possible to launch phone apps from the watch, if you have Tasker installed on the phone. You can use the Tasker AutoWear plugin. There are other methods as well, but they all require Tasker.

The AutoWear Tasker plugin can also be used to launch watch apps from the watch itself.
