Trying to load some movies on my son's Kindle Fire HD. I ripped them from some of his DVD's.

I've tried putting the movie in various folders (movie, videos, etc.). They are loaded on the Kindle, but I can't access them once they are on the Kindle.

Which file folder should the movies go? And then where do we go in the Kindle to run them?

Once they're in a folder (the "Movies" folder should be alright), try rebooting the Kindle or running an application such as SDrescan or Rescan SD. On Android, there is a service running in the background called the media scanner service. It is responsible for identifying media files and making them "visible" to Android apps that query lists of available media files such as music, movies, and photos. Sometimes the service doesn't identify new media files, and manually telling the service to re-scan the SD card (or, in the case of devices without external storage, the 'virtual' SD card) can fix the issue.

MX Player is a popular Android video player that supports many file types, and is a favorite of mine for watching movies.

For those who may question the process of ripping DVDs, I just want to mention the following: in the U.S., it is illegal to circumvent copy protection on commercial media discs, but is not illegal to rip a disc per se. Laws are different in each country, and even in the U.S. there is some acceptance for creating digital copies of physical media which you own: Judge suggests DMCA allows DVD ripping if you own the DVD | Ars Technica.
