Local playback stutters during WiFi<>4G handoff

I listen to downloaded podcasts on my 2013 Moto X during my morning walks, and I've noticed that as I move away from my house and the phone switches from WiFi to 4G, playback gets really choppy. The same thing happens as I return home, when going from 4G to WiFi.

These are downloaded podcasts playing from local storage, so it's not like this is a stream being interrupted. I've tried two different podcast apps (Player.fm and Podcast Addict) and the problem happens in both of them. I'm guessing the handoff taxes the CPU a bit, which causes playback to suffer.

It's not a big deal really, was just curious if anyone else had noticed a similar issue. Anybody?

I notice the same thing too with local content. I figured the same thing as you... Not enough cores or CPU clock cycles to make the handoff seamless.

I'm on Lollipop as of two days ago, and yesterday I went into Settings > Developer Options and disabled AwesomePlayer in favor of NuPlayer. Didn't have any stuttering today, so maybe it's fixed!

Thanks for this bit of info - I'm going to try this now.

Did you fiddle with the "Aggressive Wi-Fi to Cellular handover" developer option at all?

No, didn't touch that. I have the option disabled.
