Local Staples has low stock-hesitant though

The animated wallpapers are as easy to apply as a normal wallpaper. You can even shop for more in the Play Store. They do use some RAM, but I havr NOT noticed any slow down. That is more than likely due to the Tegra processor and 12 core GPU. I can not speak for any of the live wallpapers in the play store as their performance is dependant on the developer.

Are the animated wallpapers hard to upload/use? Do they slow down the device any?

No, when you select your wallpaper the animated (or "live") wallpapers are as easy to select as any of the others. The Play store is full of all sorts of intriguing options.

As far as slowing the device down, I've run some pretty sophisticated live wallpapers on my 2-year-old HTC Thunderbolt (1GHz single-core processor) and I've never noticed ANY slowdown. Ones that react to things like weather might use a touch more data and drain the battery a bit faster, but not that I've really noticed all that much.

On something like the Nexus 7 with a multi-core processor, multi-core CPU, and massive battery? I doubt you'd notice.

That sucks. You know someone that could go pick it up for you?

Well, it's nice to work for your cousin! I ended up just going and buying it. I got the LAST one! I have a guilty feeling though. I may end up returning it. My gut says "return it." I think I fell into the hype and knowing they only had 2 left, and one of them could be mine. On the way back to work, I realized this $250 could go towards diapers/baby formula.

Edit: Thanks, natehoy. If I decide to keep it, that's great to know. Anxious to see all of the animated wallpapers available. Also, Staples' site must be pretty accurate. As soon as I got back to work (a 10 minute drive), I looked at availability, and sure enough it said "out of stock" after I bought the last one.

There is always something else to spend money on, regardless of what you buy. And like you said: you can always take it back. I didn't need a Nexus 7, but figured it would go good with my GN, and just wanted to see what it was all about. I'm a heavy iPad user, but this is so much more portable that I have to at least give it a try.

What you are feeling is called "buyer's remorse". If you are buying this and cannot afford diapers and baby formula, then it's a valid feeling and you should return it (preferably unopened, so Staples can resell it to someone else without losing money.

If this can be absorbed into your budget as a luxury item, then enjoy your luxury item and don't worry about it. If you can afford them, you are allowed luxuries, you know.

We can afford it. It's just that with the newborn, my wife really pushes not buying anything we don't need now. She comes from a family (Pakistani) where they do not spend money on "luxuries", only the necessities. She has been bugging me to get rid of DirecTV for the past year. I love her to death though--she is one of the lowest maintenance women you will find.

I know when I go home I will get an ear full! Ha ha.
