Locating Google Play files?

Hello.

I have recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy s5 after giving up on iPhones. I have no experience in Android or Samsung. I have purchased and redeemed a Google Play card. And have looked up where to locate the music files but couldn't find the files in the folder where all the websites said they would be? Help would be appreciated.

Your post is unclear. Did you purchase music from Google Play or are you looking to purchase music? If you have purchased it already then open up the the app called Play Music and you will find it there. If you want to purchase it then open up the Play Store app and click on the Music category. If you don't already have the Google Play Music app on your phone you can download that from the Play Store as well. Just do a search for it in apps.

Where would you be able to find the purchased music files on a computer once you have plugged in the phone? I have looked under android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music and none of my purchased music items are there? Thanks

I think you may need to download the desktop version of Google's music manager if you want to get the .mp3 files. See here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/1229970?hl=en.

Or I believe you can just download the albums directly from the web application as well: play.google.com/music/ . Look for the three vertical dots next to songs/albums and there should be an option to download.

The files on your phone are hidden. As was mentioned, if your goal is to get the files downloaded to your computer, you can just open Google Music on your computer to download everything from there. You don't need to plug your phone into your computer at all for that either. You can access your music from any computer just by going to the Google Play Music website.

Also, even though the files are hidden, the music you have downloaded to the device in the Play Music app can still be accessed by 3rd party music players on your phone, like Rocket Player or Poweramp, but they will not have any info associated with them so you would have to rename them. On your phone it's easiest to just use the Play Music app to play your purchased music, or if you want to use other players, then take the music from your computer and copy it to your phone.

My soon to be brother-in-law had the same problem and I found them I believe under the path you'd listed " android/data/com.google.android.music/cache/music" or something very similar. I believe the trick was to to look for them using ES File Explorer, which I install for everyone as it's awesome, since it has the ability to "show hidden files" in the options. If I recall correctly, the real PITA was that Google doesn't name the files by standard methods (ie. band name, song name, etc) but instead created a dated or numeric file. Why don't they just make this crap easier for people??

That won't work and it won't help when you are attached to a computer anyway. The only way to do it from a computer is to use adb from a command line shell. That would be ridiculous to do when you can just download them directly from google music and have the names and other info intact as well.

My bad, I didn't see his second post noting he's looking for them after connecting it to a computer. Thought he was just looking on the phone under My Files.
