Lock Screen Help

I have a Maylong tablet that i got at an auction, well when i got home and took out of the box..it had a pattern lock screen on it...i've tried everything i know to do and i just can't reset it or anything...is there a way to root it while the lock screen is on there and bypass the whole original system? Thank you advance
