Lock screen is a hit and miss.

I never really cared for securing my screen and found it a hassle to lock it. My phone is always with me, so I don't need it. I once tried the fingerprint reader and found that several times the phone wasn't locked anyway, even with that option turned on. I thought it was a flaw of the fingerprint reader. Now I want to use the Smart Lock for passwords so I decided to try locking my phone in a different way, with a pattern and I find out that it still is a hit and miss - most of the times the screen is not locked anyways. I got the phone originally on Jelly Bean, it was updated to Lollipop and now to Marshmallow but this issue doesn't go away.

Any ideas?

Have you enabled on-body detection or anything related to SmartLock before?

Thanks for your reply.

I turned off Trust Agents in an attempt to troubleshoot, same results. Having Trusted Places and Devices enabled was my ultimate goal, but since the lock screen is working 50 % of the time or less, I turned Trust Agents off and rebooted the phone. No change.

Does the lock screen work for you?

OK, I'm officially an *****, I'll own up to it. I didn't realize that there was an option so set the amount of time that needs to pass before the screen locks. After scrolling all the way down to find this option, I realize that the lock screen is working perfectly well. So I'll leave this here for posterity, in the odd chance that someone is as dumb as I am. Who knows!
