Lock screen is gone

This hasn't happened in a long time which is why I forgot it could happen. Basically when the phone sleeps or is turns off, it has a lock screen that is easily to unlock, unless there's a password, but now its not showing up.

I fixed it by restart so, what caused it and how can I prevent this in the near future?

You probably have it set to only lock after a few minutes. I have mine set so that I can turn my device on and off and it doesn't have the lock, but after 5 minutes it puts the lock there.

You can set it to immediately lock after screen is turned off in the settings.

I'm actually talking about the lockscreen that unlocks by moving the ring to the center

I have not had this happen except if I am running an app that thinks it should have the screen on all of the time. For example if I'm using Navigation I can press the power button on and off and not have to work the "swipe to unlock" feature. So to me it sounds like you have an app running that you are not closing all the way, and it's running in the background probably when you think it's closed. Then it is not allowing the swipe to unlock to come on, so when you restart you are essentially closing that app all of the way and getting your swipe to unlock to work again. Next time it happens do two things, first pull down your notification bar and change to the second page (don't have my phone so you'll either have to know what I'm talking about or guess), at the bottom of the list on the second page is something called memory, I think, and it has a computer chip for an icon, I'm pretty sure, anyway press that and see what's running. Anything keeping your phone awake should register in that list. Then you can end all of the programs that show up there or just the one you suspect of keeping your phone awake. Which is essentially what I think is happening. Your phone is not being allowed to sleep, if I'm right. The second thing was to kill the app, so since I already said that the new second thing will be to go to that app and figure out how to properly close/shutdown/end it so you won't have the issue anymore. I know I have a few apps that you have to press the menu button and choose to end it or it will continue to run forever. None that I know of keep my phone awake but the is the great thing about Android everyone can be different. The problem should be easy to reproduce simply by opening and or doing the same things you had done on the day it happened just before you noticed that you didn't have any swipe to unlock. That way you're not waiting for something that you describe as only happening to you once in awhile, by which time you may have forgotten that some guy on the forums gave you some advice. Right? Anyway, please post back if this worked or not that way if it didn't someone can offer you something else.
