Lock Screen music controls

Is anybody else having trouble using the lock screen music controls?
When using Spotify (haven't tested other apps). I am unable to use the lock screen to control music. However, after I unlock my phone to change tracks then go back to the lock screen I am able to use it as normal.

I'm having the same issue when trying to change tracks with my Galaxy Buds and with my car stereo.

I've noticed the same with Spotify specifically.

Interestingly, Spotify just got updated on my phone. seems to be working now.
