Doesn't atleast for me matter where you pull down from.

You'll see your L.E.D light up just prior to seeing the clock and status bar with any notifications you may or may not have

I'm not sure about AT&T but it works for T-Mobile.

I start above the screen and it works almost every time. Touch screen> pull down slowly > keep contact with screen and blue led will light followed be time and status bar notifications. Not nearly as useful as the Motorola stuff but a quick way to check time
