Can someone help me understand the point to the lock screen? If i secure my phone with a password, etc. then I no longer have access to any apps or widget I put on the lock screen. If I don't secure my phone then I can access the apps and widgets I put there, but they are the same apps and widgets on my Home page. So, why use the lock screen at all? Why not just turn off all security and go directly to my Home page?

Just don't understand!! Am I missing something?

You're missing the fact that for some people have some security is more important that being able to access apps on the lock screen.

Without a pin/password, the job of a lock screen is to keep you from accidentally turning on your phone in your pocket and dialing people/ opening apps/ etc.
