Okay so I know this might sound like a weird question but with Android and and the fingerprint scanner with the Nexus 6p what's the need of a lock screen for notifications the unlocking process on this phone is so damn quick you might as well just unlocked the phone to quickly reply back to text messages and everything else. Do people use their pulsating notification light or ambient mode as well? Because ambient mode doesn't do that as well just like it didn't do anything in the Nexus 6 basically, just wondering how everyone has their notifications and lock screen setup. I mean the Note 2 lock screen and notifications is more prevalent on lollipop and marshmallows but maybe not so much on Android and again the fingerprint scanner makes a huge difference. I am noticing though with the inbox app by Gmail that my notifications aren't working with the notification lights. :-( not sure why.

For inbox, you need to turn your light notification on from the inbox app itself.
Yes, I use my lock screen notifications all the time. I'm very busy at work, and my lock screen give me a very quick peek to make sure I don't have something urgent going in without having to unlock the phone and pull notifications down.

But see here's the thing, and for the quick reply and feature an Android app for text messaging you can do it from the lock screen. So you might as well unlock the phone and her back and then lock it back down. Thanks for the suggestion that inbox app by Gmail. I appreciate that.

With a Moto 360 and the fingerprint sensor I rarely see the lockscreen - I do however use Light Flow for passive notifications via the LED, such as charging indicators and Google Now notifications. All other notifications are seen via the watch or when I pick up the phone, though.

See this is the 1st phone where I can honestly say that with android n and quick reply text messaging,i night just disable the ambient display, and use the pulsating notification l light literally for everything. Between that and the fingerprints sensor the lock screen is almost unnecessary. Just saying...

I prefer using the Ambient display over the LED notifications though it is sketchy at times.
Lockscreen is redundant most of the times due to the fingerprint scanner. But, if the phone lying flat down on my desk, a small nudge would activate the Ambient display. Of course, I can pick up the phone and use the fingerprint scanner, but am as lazy as a sleeping bear. :p
For general notifications, the Ambient Display is enough for me.

See now, I agree with you that the lock screen on the Nexus 6p with Android and software is redundant. There's almost no need for the lock screen I prefer the LED notification over the in being this way because it's not consistent at all just like it wasn't on the Nexus 6 when it was introduced. My handle on the LED notification light pulsates the light is this it works every single time no matter what kind of notification or text or email you get the ambient display doesn't always work as advertised we all know that.

Completely agreed.
It's just that, for what I need, the Ambient Display gets the job done!

Touche I can understand that as well. I mean don't get me wrong the ambient display is a cool idea in theory but it's implementation basically sucks! The led light t consistently always works

I didn't mean to counter you. LED does work all the time.
I hope they do improve the Ambient Display's niggles.
