Does anyone know whether or not the Bootloader for the Droid 2 will be locked? Or, are we merely speculating at this point? I home I'm not doubleposting something that's somewhere else, couldn't find it...anyway, what do you all think?

Hmm, well the Droid 1 bootloader isn't locked, so maybe in the Droid QWERTY series they would keep it unlocked, as a dev phone or something?

...I'm not really that knowledgeable about boatloaders, and motorola's take on the position..that's why I'm here, haha. Anyone know anything?

Motorola has said the Droid was a special case and future phones will have encrypted bootloaders. The info is out there, just do a search.

But stop worrying about because the committee will get it unlocked just like the x and roms will b available after awhile. its not the end of the world.

I cant seem to find much info on what a Locked bootlader does besides you cant load custom ROMS onto the phone. What does that mean exactly and what are some desirable examples of things that CANNOT be done with a Locked Bootloader, thanks.

That seems to be the main issue. No custom ROMs, so you are stuck with Motorola's Blurized Android and if the phone borks, you have to SBF it to be able to recover.

And u can't swap kernels. That is the problem with X and the e fuse but I have a gut feeling the new MOTO will be better to root and what nots

Good to see someone inquiring as to why something is instead of repeating what everyone else is saying.

The short answer to your question, would be nothing. There is pretty much nothing a D2 can't do besides flash alternate kernels. Which are used primarily to achieve overclocking, which is also capable on a D2.

motorola said couple of days ago that their new phones in the 2011 will have unlock bootloader.
about their previous phone they didn't mention anything :(
