Locked out of phone

Hello,
I have an old ASUS Zenphone SE, that I haven't used in years, I want to use it again, but forgot the passcode pattern. What I've read online is after a few failed try's "forgot password" pops up and then just log into google, but the phone isn't connected to cellular or wifi, so can't do that. The other option is to hold the power button and volume buttons to reset the phone, but that's not working either. Anyideas?

Do you mean the Zenfone 2 Deluxe Special Edition? I can't find a ZenFone SE when I search on Google.

You could try a hard reset from the Recovery menu: ASUS Zenfone 2E U500 - How to Hard Reset my phone - HardReset.info. But be aware that with Factory Reset Protection (assuming the phone is running Lollipop or higher), this will require you to enter the correct Google account and password upon restarting, and before you can get to the Setup Wizard.

What's the problem with pressing power and volume keys. When the dead android symbol appears, press and hold the volume down key to access boot recovery menu.

Thanks for the link. When I get to the Android system recovery screen I only have three options; reboot system now, apply update from ADB, apply update from microSD. I have no option to wipe data or factory reset. Probably user error on my part.

Just to update this thread, I'm still very much locked out of my phone.
