Lockscreen notifications not lighting up screen bright enough

I have always wondered on Pixel phones why is this the case. So phone is locked sitting on a table a notification comes up the screen comes on but the screen is so dark you can't see the notification so have to wake up the phone proper to see the notification.

Anyone know a solution for the screen to be bright enough to see the notifications on lockscreen?

I'm not sure if it would be the same, but I've been using Glimpse Notifications instead and have had no issues. It completely wakes up the screen, and you can set it to repeat notifications up until 10 minutes I think. Really great app.

I haven't noticed this on my Pixel 4XL or my wife's Pixel 3a. I can see the Notifications on the lock screen with no issues, it's not too dark.
