I bought my Nexus 6 from Google Play so I should have 5.1 already right? But it keeps saying my device is up to date at 5.0.1.

I'm on Fido. Does that make a difference?

I tried removing my SIM and checking for the update, but no dice.

Any advice? I'd really rather not root my phone.

Thanks everyone.

Updates are sent in waves and not everyone will receive it at the same time. Whether you purchased from Google or another retailer doesn't matter. You can wait for the update, which can take days, weeks, or longer. Or update manually with the OTA files provided here: Here are the Android 5.1 OTA update links, and how to use them [Update: Nexus 6 link] | Android Central

Updating via the OTA file (manually) doesn't require rooting and can be a simple process if you are able to follow the directions provided on the above page. Let us know if you have any questions.
