Lollipop broke (insert something that worked before) is the theme this holiday season but back to your problem I'm not quite sure why it does that

I am having issues with video playback in Google Play and Google Play Newsstand on the Nexus 9 since upgrading to 5.0.1. The video will start to play and then pause after a second. I have tried clearing app data, clearing cache, factory reset as well as re-flashing the 5.0.1 factory image.

I am having exactly the same issue as DarrenAustAE is anybody else experiencing this?
