Lollipop making Nexus 5 very hot

I've noticed that my Nexus 5 is getting very hot running apps since the Lollipop update rolled out.
Contrary to what I expected, the battery is running down faster than before.
Has anyone else noticed this?
Could anyone hint at a solution please?

Welcome to Android Central! Try wiping the cache partition, which won't erase any personal data. This process takes 5-10 minutes on the N5, so be patient. http://forums.androidcentral.com/nexus-5-rooting-roms-hacks/352008-guide-nexus-5-recovery.html

I cleared the cache but the battery is still discharging very quickly, although the device is no longer getting hot.
With moderate use, I'm getting about 8 hours.
With KitKat I would get about 14.
Any suggestions anyone?
