Lollipop on Galaxy S5 in Canada?

Hi,

For the past two months I've been dying to get my hands on the new Lollipop OS for my Galaxy S5 but I keep seeing that it is getting released everywhere except Canada and the US. I've also seen that there are a lot of builds and ways to get the OS on an S5, but always with the warning that this firmware is meant for a specific model of the S5, and I know that sometimes there are small model variations between the phones even if they are all Galaxy S5.

My questions are:
1. Is there a way to install the firmware, by rooting or some more safe way?
2. Is it safe (or what are the risks) of doing so?

I would really appreciate any help or advice on this, I keep hearing really great things about Lollipop and I don't want to wait another few months for Bell to officially send out the firmware update.

Thank you,

Ted

Answer to question 1:

There is a link for this at the top of this forum page.

Answer to question 2:

Be advised it is very easy to brick your phone doing this. Also will likely void your warranty. many folks do this though so just be careful and Good luck..

Ok, so assuming I do risk this, and then a few months down the line my provider releases the firmware update officially, am I able to go back to an unrooted phone?

If this is anything like jailbreaking an ipod touch (which I used to do all the time) then I'm assuming this is possible. Or is this more of a "once you go root, you can never go back" situation?

Thanks

I think if you want to unroot and fully remove all traces of root and custom roms then you can just flash the stock rom on your s5. I believe sam mobile has a whole bunch of stock roms for most carriers

Alright so just doing some research there are a lot of rooting tutorials and the ROM for the Lollipop update exists for other versions of the S5, but nothing directly for the SM-G900W8 which is the one I have. What's the danger of installing Lollipop on this model of the S5?

I also saw this page where there seems to be a beta version of lollipop for my model (Can't post links yet). Is this ROM designed by a developer to look like Lollipop or was it made by Google? Or is this a hacked version of Google's ROM designed to work with the g900w8? The beta in the name is the most confusing part and I'm borderline paranoid about rooting a phone as opposed to jailbreaking an ipod touch because of the higher risks.

Would also like to know the answer to this question, what lollipop ROM do we use for model SM-G900W8

Ok so I've been looking around all day and I've concluded that there is no way to get Lollipop on the SM-G900W8, not officially. The only thing you can do is root the phone, and then install a custom ROM by Cyanogenmod otherwise called the Android 5.0 Lollipop CM12 Beta. From what I can tell this is not the actual Lollipop firmware, but one built by the CyanogenMod team which looks like and has the features of the Lollipop firmware.

Please correct me if I am wrong. What I was hoping to find is a way to get the official Lollipop firmware for the SM-900W8 model, assuming that the firmware works the same across all S5 models. I guess this is not possible, and I'm not risking bricking my phone to test that out.

Ya, I'm not risking it... I bet rogers will never roll out lollipop. Easier to just leave us with 4.4.2 And over charge us on are bill
