Lollipop update for Note 4 in the UK?

Ok here's the screenshots I promised...

I have sync turned off, my brightness is always at around 30-40%. I've been listening to a radio app while cooking which I don't normally do (seems to be a battery eater) and I've taken a few photos today with the camera while out for a walk with my son. Other than that fairly normal use however you you'll notice that my signal is permanently terrible caused by ee which would have had a negative effect on battery life. I am switching networks next week so hopefully that will improve things a little.

Thanks for posting these screen shots much appreciated.
I can see that screen is as always a power drainer and yes poor signal strength really drains the battery substantially. I am also with EE but unfortunately and stuck with them for quite a long time until my contract expires.
When I am at home I am always connected to Wi-Fi and that never really drains my battery. Sometimes I switch off mobile data when I have a poor signal and that makes a big difference.
With regards to the screen I always have that set to adaptive and auto brightness and that helps.
Location reporting I have set to high accuracy unless I am in a poor service area.
Just a question, when you were listening to the radio was that whilst connected to Wi-Fi or using your data connection?
Please keep us updated with regards to the stability.
Thanks again for posting the screen shots.

I can't really out my figure out what ee have done wrong because their 4g is excellent but my phone signal goes up to full while I'm in a call then back down to one bar after. Even their customer service reps couldn't provide any answers, the last person I spoke to when getting my pac code only lives 5 minutes away from me and even tried saying I needed a newer phone and recommended an iPhone despite the note 4 only being 6 months old lol I cringed and he soon realised he was wasting his time lol

In answer to your other question I only used WiFi while listening to the radio app. Thinking about it my battery should be better than others because I'm on WiFi all the time whether I am at work or home. I'll post more screen shots tomorrow after a normal day at work (hectic today) then that should hopefully help the UK people on the fence about this update make a final decision. But at the moment I'd say as long as you're willing to do a factory reset go for it

Apparently Lollipop is now available for 02 customers with note 4's! I really can't believe network branded phones are getting this update before me who bought sim free :( hurry up and release the update Samsung!

Agreed same here. UK Note 4 unlocked and unbranded still with no update.

I keep being tempted to try and flash one of the other variants using ODIN, but not sure if it'll cause me problems later on. My understanding is that I can take the Germany BOC3 file from sammobile and use that.

Not sure it's worth the risk though.

I gave up and flashed using the latest german version and odin. Backing up now and will do a factory restore

Yeah I've been tempted but I've waited this long may as well hold on a while longer now, how can networks who test and add their own bloat be releasing this update before Samsung?

Lesson learned don't by simfree and in future just buy nexus.

I have to agree. This was one of the main reasons I got a sim free phone.... not making this mistake again

I flashed German LP a couple of weeks ago and although all seemed OK at first I started having problems a few days later. Something was keeping my phone awake most of the time even before I downloaded any apps, I suppose a well reported memory leak, so I went back to KK. I think Samsung may be aware that there are problems and are working on a fix. Hopefully it won't be too long before we see a more stable firmware release. As far as carriers releasing updates first that's been the case since I had S2, unlocked phones are usually the last ones to get them.

it was really lagging before I did the factory restore. Will let you know how it goes

Nope!!!! I would not do that as it can cause problems with applications. I did it with my Note 3 because I was so fed up with waiting.... worse thing I ever did. Only do it if you can flash back to the original KitKat.... that is just my opinion.

I know that we are all very frustrated about carriers rolling updates before those of us on unlocked Note 4's are getting it.
Please do not flash your phones just to get a half-baked version of Lollipop, it really it just not worth the potential headache.

Samsung has a reason for holding off on this update, if you look further back in this thread that I started you will see my mention of 5.1 and a reworked version of the Touch Wiz interface.
Nexus has already got 5.1 and I believe that once Samsung has added it's bits n pieces, this will be the version we get.
S6 and S6 Edge are having issues straight out of the box so Samsung will be rolling out this new version to those handsets and then we should all start getting ours.
I am happy with KitKat although I would love to update to Lollipop as I have the Gear VR and there are some known benefits with the update and the Gear VR. I also have an LG R watch that is running 5.02 and that also is supposed to be much better if you have Lollipop. However I am a believer in Samsung and I know they will push the most stable version on to us asap!

I hear your frustration and YES I understand that Apple might seem a better option with regard to updates, however I have to ask, do you really hate your Samsung Note 4 that much that you would jump to Apple? I agree that not having the ability remove the battery and expand the storage on the S6 range as well as the waterproofing was not the best idea on Samsung's part. I hope that they correct this with the Note 5, however your Note 4 does a great job on KitKat 4.4.4 right? So just hang in there until we see what Samsung actually gives us in the way of it's Lollipop update as I think you will be very surprised. Then we will see everyone on a locked Note 4 begging their carriers for an update because they had a rushed version that quite frankly sucks!!

I know what you are saying and also think we might jump straight to 5.1.

Here's hoping anyway...

Hate this waiting process! I genuinely am considering moving to the nexus range next time especially if Samsung drop SD Storage and Removable battery in the next note.

I give Apple plenty of stick over their walled garden and high price tag etc, but because they are not soo fragmented like android I love how they update there software all over the world at the same time.

If we lose the capacity to increase storage (Battery different issue) there are many solutions out there that work fine. The one I am using right now with my Note 4 is is "Dash Micro" by a company called Meenova https://shopmeenova.appspot.com/ this clever little device will take a 128GB Micro SD card just by plugging it into your charging port and it is super quick. I have the 32GB Note 4 with a 128GB Micro SD inserted and this "Dash Micro" with all of my music on it, so rather than putting music on my internal memory or the inserted SD card i just put everything on this little baby and away you go. Now that is a lot of storage, it also doubles up as a USB device so you just plug it into your computer, copy files etc. if the link does not work then just Google it... so cheap and so fast....amazing.

Hi everyone, im new here. I got my Note 4 first time today, after coming off the back of a S4 contract (finally!). I've had my eye on the Note 4 since it came out. I've bought the phone unlocked this time.

I was wondering why my Note 4 has no firmware available to download! Slightly disappointed, as I thought unlocked phones generally get the updates first! :p

The likely hood is I will only consider changing to Apple if Samsung dropped the removable battery and sd slot, I'm still hoping they don't for the note 5.

Apparently according to various forums simfree Samsung devices in the UK always get the updates last and this has been a ongoing issue since the Samsung S4, so I wouldn't be too sure we will get a better version of Lollipop.

I can't notice a lot of difference on the initial upgrade, a bit neater interface but that was it. Didn't seem quite as fast and noticed if I wasn't on WiFi, the battery drained rather faster, so have bitten the bullet and done Factory Reset...will advise how that works out
