On one hand, I hate that I have to buy a phablet to get good battery life. On the other hand, great battery life puts me at ease knowing I want be hunting for a charger by 3 or 4pm.

That's great to hear. A couple quotes from the article...

But, battery use is such a personal experience. There are a lot of factors that influence it that you really can't rely on tests like these and expect the same results.

Influencing factors are:
- screen brightness
- # of apps, media, files installed
- types of apps used
- overly aggressive app syncing (ie poorly written apps)
- if you use WiFi mainly or 4G mostly
- your proximity/distance to WiFi router (ie poor signal strength drains battery faster)
- your 4G signal strength. I work in an office building and depending on which cubical I sit in (literally only 20 feet away) can make a big difference in battery consumption
- probably lots more factors

I hope so but I am not going to put much faith in PhoneArena ... Why you ask? Simply because they say "we run a script that mimics real world usage" -- Okay what do they consider as "real world usage"? It helps if they tell you everything so you can have a better of idea on what they think is "real" usage versus your own.

I dont think the take away is that you will get 9 hours of screen time, its that the battery is good so that however you use the battery, you will get more relative time than less.

And I agree but when it comes to battery tests .. at least for me .. I have to know what they did. I can achieve amazing life on my Note 3 .. if I disable this, that, and that .. or that .. .

So for me I just have to know what they did exactly in order to see if it was a true normal user experience.

I agree with you... however, I don't think they are actually going for how it will work in your specific case in your specific way of use. They are using a testing program that simulates some sort of normal routine, rather than just running a video on full bright until the battery dies. The only way these numbers are usable to you, or anyone else is to compare them to other devices that were tested the same way.

That way they can say that the battery on the Note 4 runs for 9 hours of screen life in our test... you discover that the same test yielded 7 hours for the Note 3. You can look at those numbers and say "I have the Note 3 and I get about 5 hours out of it, so I might be looking at about a 12-15% improvement over what I currently have."

There is no way I can replicate my battery usage day to day, much less expect to replicate exactly what others have tested it for. I know I can squeeze more out of a battery, but what I really want to know when making a battery life decision, is it better than something else.. that I already know. I have a note 2, and have the 9000 mah battery. I am kinda getting sick of the bulk, but I really, really, love the fact that I can ignore the battery. My stock note 2 battery was not so wonderful. However, using these comparisons, I can see that there is a chance that I will be pleased with the stock note 4 battery.

I never said anything about running a video at full brightness until it dies. They say their script mimics real usage .. What is "real" usage to them? Tons of webpages? A few YouTube? Music streaming? What?

Until I know that I simply won't trust them. You can have your opinion on the matter but for me .. I only trust battery tests that tell me everything they're doing .. that way I can make my best judgement.

Oh trust me I know my usage can't be compared on a battery test.. I can drop a battery in no time. I also understand how it definitely varies person to person and yes I do buy spares.

But for me to know the stamina of the battery for the average user.. I have to know how they tested it. Just like when anything else in life is tested people won't trust "it just works I tested it".. Most will ask" how did you test it?".

Again guys I said it's just for me.. No need to worry about trying to change my mind ... Also I'm not trying to say the battery is bad.. I just only like specific tests (I guess you could say that) .

I already expected the note 4 to have great battery life. The note 3 had good battery life and easily got me through a full day. I can't wait for mine to arrive. I ordered one today and just got my confirmation email a few minutes ago. Now to wait impatiently. Lol

If I get anything close to 6-8hrs of real usage on screen time, I'll be extremely happy. Only getting about 4.5hrs with my current S4, so doubling that will make a world of difference.

Here's how I look at it... I get an average of 5 hours screen time on my S5 - sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less. The Note 4 did better in their test than the S5, so even if I don't know the exact method, I can still infer that the Note 4 will give me more screen time and that's all I need to know.

+1, androidauthority only had about 4hr 25m screen on time, so the 9+hr seems unreal, they probably turned off GPS and cellular, which sucks up the most juice.
