Looking at purchasing a new XL 2 from google, worried about this blue tint I'm hearing about

You'll probably notice it some in the beginning - because you'll be looking for it. Then, after a relatively short of of actually using the phone, you probably will forget it's there, unless someone reminds you. that's how it is for me anyway ..

Try it for yourself, then you'll know if it's for you or not. As for me, love this phone.

Got mine a few days ago. The blue tint is there. I really hadn't noticed a major issue with it until today using it at work for the first time. Pixel on desk and I'm reading from an angle, it's very noticeable.

The blue tint is noticeable when you're looking for it, otherwise I pretty much forget about it. That being said, I don't think the screen is a good as the one on my iPhone 6s plus.

I went and looked at an iPhone X and was blown away by the screen but I didn't like the size. I had read the negative reviews about the screen on the 2 XL and figured if it was just somewhere between the screen on my 6s plus and the X I would be happy. However it doesn't seem as sharp as the 6s plus and the whites are more of a gray to me compared to the 6s plus.

However, unless you're looking at them side by side, you'll never notice. To me, the screen is far from a deal breaker, but it's certainly not a reason to purchase the phone either.

Cross-post from another thread:

I spent a long time with the demo unit Pixel 2 XL at Best Buy tonight and seriously, there's no issues with the screen. The demo unit didn't even have any burn in, which was surprising. I put my S8 Active's screen next to the screen on the Pixel 2 XL, and even though the colors on the S8 Active were punchier, I preferred the color on the Pixel 2 XL. My S8 Active had the same amount of off-axis blue shifting as the Pixel 2 XL. I'll be getting my Stormtrooper Pixel 2 XL tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it! My S8 Active is going back to T-Mobile.

I'm eating crow right now.

Edit: And I want to add that the iPhone X I owned before the S8 Active also had blue shifting when tilting the phone off-axis.

Blue tint, off angle is there, and nothing is going to fix it. BUT, its really not that big of a deal. In normal use, the screen is perfectly fine with no blue tint. Recent updates helped sound on recorded videos and dealt with the burn in issue.

It was a big enough deal for me. Just returned my 2XL. I'm not settling for this poor screen. Just my opinion though. If I'm paying top tier pricing for a phone, it better deliver especially the screen when that's what you're looking at the most.

I've had my pixel2 XL for several weeks now. I cannot notice or can barely notice the whole blue tint screen thing. I also do not notice battery life being any worse after the 8.1 update or during the beta testing. I am very pleased with this phone and could not be happier to finally be in a full Google / Android ecosystem. I was a Motorola guy for the last 20 years. Unfortunately Moto rarely updates their phones and that is why I left Motorola. I believe Google squandered an opportunity when they sold Motorola to Lenovo
