Looking For a Way to Share/Edit a Calendar On-line

This may be child's play in the business world but I'm not in that world
My husband is a wood and carpet installer. In the past he's contracted (mostly) thru one store
and a couple builders but has decided to become more of a "free agent". Now he's juggling 3 stores
and 3-4 builders. Scheduling is getting tricky. He's asked me to find a way where all his designers and
builders have access to a schedule sheet (or calendar) and can write to/edit that schedule sheet and everyone see the
changes and additions to his schedule. So I'd have maybe a 2 month calendar that the designers and builders
could fill in dates with jobs and save the changes. The next time someone logs in, they'd see the updated schedule
and know when he would be available. Seems like a simple request, right? Course free is always a bonus Several people
would have to be able to access the calendar via password. To keep this OT, I would, of course, manage the helm via my
uber wonderful G/N 2014 tablet

Google Calendar can do this. Your husband can create a calendar, then share it with other people and give them the ability to edit it. Those other people would need a Google account. Once your husband shared the calendar with them, they could open the Google Calendar website, where they would see the calendar listed under "Other Calendars" in the left hand column. Any changes made by one person would be seen immediately by anyone else with access to the calendar. Keeping it "free" rules MS Outlook out basically...unless everyone concerned already has MS Outlook.

From my own experience with a very similar situation, Google's Calender does an admirable job of sharing time schedules. Hopefully none of involved parties are hyper sensitive to sharing info on the big G.

Settings for making changes(initial only) is best made on a PC in the G Calender

Add another vote for Google Calendar. I use it for exactly what you are describing. You can set it so anyone can see it, no one can see it (except you, of course), or only those that you allow can see it. You can also have events that block out time, but don't show what it is. For example, you can block out Thur Oct 16 from 8-10am, so no one can schedule you for anything else. But keep the description private, so no one else can see that you're going for a job interview O.

You can set it to email reminders to specific people, of specific events. You can have repeating events.

It's quite powerful, considering the price.

Google Calendars it is Got to thinking last night...what if someone saw a date that was already taken and took it upon themselves to remove that event (job) and schedule their own job I asked my husband if he thought any of his customers would actually do that and he said yes, he thinks a couple of them might. Bosouer, could you explain what you mean by making initial changes on the PC? I you saying that setting up the calendar is best done on the PC and then any subsequent changes/edits are ok to be made by phone, tab or desktop computer?

Yes exactly that way. I find it just that bit easier setting the permissions, when I have a mouse and it's right-click options available. Thereafter changes and management can be on mobile devices(I strictly use the tablet, Note and S4 as Mobile devices unencumbered by loose keyboards etc) If you set the permissions up correctly "fixed" dates cannot be changed and "open" dates can only be filled by users if you as administrator of the shared calender accept the proposed changes.

This is something that could happen, if everyone has the ability to make changes to the calendar. So there has to be some semblance of an honor system among the participants. There is actually a way to delve into the XML code of Google Calendar to see some of the details of when an event was posted, and I think you can see if a previous one was deleted. There are some online XML readers that can show you the code. I had to do that once, because I schedule a bunch of doctors who all have the ability to sign up for shifts. Two people signed up almost at the same time, and there was a bit of a dispute as to who signed up first. I was able to figure out who signed up first from a timestamp in the XML code.

It's weird, I think I recall having issues posting that link when I originally responded. Even though I copied and pasted that exact link, the AC forum website kept on attaching something else to the link. Initially, when I clicked on it final post to make sure it went to the right page, it worked. But now it doesn't. I've seen that happen before--weird glitch.
