Hi I'm coming to the Motorola Admiral from a LG900G. The Admiral is my first "smart" phone using android.

The LG900G had a "Memo" feature that was useful for storing little notes like usernames and passwords or Mom's birthday and favorite flower shop, is there something similar on the Moto? Do I need to get an APP? How does one get an APP exactly?

I was able to use Quickoffice/QuickWord but a 3 word file is taking up 9kB. Also I'm having to name each file with QuickWord when the old phone would just display the first line of the memo which was easier.

The phone is on Kajeet (not Sprint) and I don't have any data plan if that makes a difference.

Ahh, thanks. I can't seem to get it to work. Remember I don't have data on the phone.

I'm trying to use my desktop to download the file but that does not seem to work.

Ok I've got a Keep crx file. What now?

Ummm, a .crx file is a chrome extension for the DESKTOP version of a Chrome browser. You have NO data on the Admiral at all? Not even WiFi? An Android app is a .apk file. But, trying to use any smartphone without data is going to be a very frustrating (and boring) experience. Kind of like buying a new car without tires. Looks pretty, runs great but you're not going to get very far.

The phone does have WiFi and I did put in the code for the router but the browser still didn't work. It just complained about not having a data plan. How do I make it use WiFi?

Are you sure your router is set correctly? Do any other devices (laptops, tablets, xbox, etc) connect & have internet access? On the Admiral, (or any smartphone) if you connect to a router then it will automatically use that for data instead of using your provider's data since it saves battery & usually saves you money.
I don't remember exactly what it looks like but up next to the signal strength meter there should be a WiFi indicator when you are connected to WiFi.

Okay, got it figured out. Thanks for all the help.

WiFi was working but for some reason displayed an error when going to the default website. Simply trying another website "fixed" that issue.

It took me forever to figure out Google Play. I was trying to access with my computer and with the phone's browser and that don't work. I finally figured out that you need to get on Google Play with the Google Play icon on the phone (I was looking for an icon to click on within the browser).

Got some kind of Google Keep working but I think it cloud based and depends on a connection that will not always be available.

After much struggling I got Simple Note to install so we are good now. Thanks again!

Glad you got it working.
About Google Play Store... You can access it from your computers browser & if you are logged into your google account, you can install apps directly from your computer. Provided that your phone has internet access then the app will automagically install. To access Play on your phone, definitely use the Play store app. While you can access it from your phone's browser, its by no means meant to work that way & is a pain.
Keep is a cloud based app. Its purpose is to keep your notes accessible everywhere. You can install the desktop app through your Chrome browser (the .crx file you downloaded) and all your notes will be synced between your phone, desktop, laptop, tablet, etc.

Just something I thought of from when I used the Admiral.... it has a strange screen ratio so some apps say they are not compatible. Sometimes you can get around that by downloading the app from the Amazon App Store instead of Google Play. Get it here https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.h...ag=hawk-future-20&ascsubtag=UUacUvbUpU3131794

Now that I've got it all figured out getting new apps is a trivial process, super easy from the phone or the computer.

Snagged a QR scanner, flashlight app and of course Simple Note. Checked out the Amazon link via the QR scanner which was cool. I've seen other people use these things but now I'm finally current with 2011 or so...

If I had a data package Google Keep would be very attractive but I'm operating on a slim budget with no money for data. The wife is due in less than a month and she just lost her job so money is tight.

Thanks for all the help!
