Hey all,
Been lurking around the forums fir quite some time now as well as on other mobile nations sites. I'm currently on an atrix 4g and looking for a new device as 1/3 of my screen its dead and very annoying to use. I've chosen to post on the droid forums for one reason, being a long time crackberry member. I've noticed lately you can't ask the members anything that doesn't directly involve BlackBerry without being jumped on and treated like a child so.... hoping that doesn't happen here, if it does don't bother I'll just skip your post so save us both the hassle.
I'll start off by saying I love my droid. The two devices I'm debating are the HTC one and bb z10. both devices have very strong selling points and I really like the design of each, especially the solid aluminum on the one. Android os has really grown on me and I love being able to customize everything so easily(rooted with unlocked boot) the last htc I had was evo 3d which I liked, before that was the bb bold 9900.
The biggest draw back I'm seeing with the z10 is being an early adopter to the new os, it's quite tempting to want to jump right in and get it but I dunno if I want to deal with bugs n such while they work it out n polish it up. No matter the choice I know I can return or sell it for the other but the first pick being the right one sounds optimal. Any -unbiased- opinions or advice, suggestions etc?

I would go with the One. The BlackberryZ10 is a nice phone but still has to iron out the wrinkles in the OS and add more apps to compete with the Android App store. With the One if you dont like something abouut the phone, you can easliy customize it with launchers and widgets and wallpapers. then if you want to take it a step further you can root it. The specs on the One beat the Z10 also. The best thing you could do is go play with both and see which fits your needs then choose.

Ya I've compared the apps but I really don't use that many. The ones I do use are there or can be sideloaded. I'm weighing towards the One, pending release. Anyone that has the one across the pond have any advice? I haven't seen many, if any, negative things about it thus far. How's battery life? I'm not a power user but I do use a fair amount of juice. Display in bright light?

I'm actually intrigued by Blackberry myself, had thought about going trying out a Q10 for a bit of a nostalgia hit.

You say you don't use that many apps so it's going to come down to which OS you prefer. You already know what Android is about, if I were you I'd go play with a Z10 display unit and get a feel for BB10, then make a decision based on that. I've heard some promising things about BB10, I've also heard all too frequently that it may be too late for it.

But if I were in your shoes I'd probably go with the most bang for my buck and pick up the One. They both cost the same amount, but with the One you're actually getting a high end 2013 device. The Z10 is more of mid-range in comparison. I can't really say anything about Blackberry drying up and leaving the game because HTC is collapsing too, just something you need to know.

Yea I've thought the same thing, the new os is what's drawing me to the z10. I don't buy into bb or HTC going anywhere, there both making profits so worrying who's gonna be around in 5 years shouldn't weigh on anyone's decision.
what I am kinda thinking about is getting the one I could sell for more if I decided I didn't like it in order to buy the other. Thinking this way I would go with the one. Android Is easier to sell then bb, being realistic.

Speaking as someone who was an early Android adopter (Motorola Droid on launch day in 2009) and then jumped to Windows Phone 7 about two months after it launched, I can address your early adopter concerns. To put it bluntly, it sucks. You may get a line like "45 of the top 50 apps", but that is misleading. It is really the mid popularity apps, like Epic Stickman, Flipboard, Snake.Payback., etc., that make iOS and Android so great. Apps like Facebook, Twitter, Angry Birds make up the top 50 apps. They are good to have, but every platform has them and they aren't the greatest apps in the world. I love Windows Phone, but I will not go back unless it becomes a top tier OS like Android and iOS with great mid-popularity apps.
