Looking into the OnePlus as a potential Pixel alternative....

I've recently bought the one plus 8. Prior to this I had the Motorola g6 plus. I love Motorola, mainly due to the price and their version of Android. However, I have found the one plus far superior. I was expecting something similar to Samsung, but thankfully I was totally wrong. I have to give it to one plus, their version of Android is by far the best i've experienced yet. I won't be going back to Samsung or Motorola or even Google.

I don't think Oxygen OS is any way near to Pixel. The only OEM that can match Pixel in user interface is Motorola. Motorola's take on UI is definitely way better than oxygen OS. The strength of One plus is purely hardware and that's the reason they are shinging in this segment.
Welcome to the forums. I guess that's personal. All my phones before I bought the OP 7 have been Moto models, from the original Moto G to the G7+, which got Android 10 in January. I still kind of miss Moto Display but for the rest I find OOS a better Android version.

I'd second that. Moto's Display is top-notch. One of the main reasons why I'd wanted to try a Moto phone in the first place was for the display!

I've had all three in the last two years, OnePlus, Pixels and Samsung. OnePlus and Oxygen OS is by far my favorite and the only one that I don't immediately replace the launcher. Pixel is ok but I find the pixel launcher lacking a couple key features that I use and Samsung is ok, way better than it used to be but definitely running third place.

What do you find Pixel launcher tp be lacking in?

I don't know which carrier your on but Samsung has upped their game for the most part when it comes to updates, especially on unlocked models.

Verizon

Yes, it does a difference for some situations, like portrait mode for example. Software is a huge part of how good a camera is and Google is probably the best in this part.
Yes definitely
I completely agree with the both of you! I used to have a Samsung Galaxy s8 from Verizon. I was so used to the way that the Galaxy s8 took pictures that I thought was the best in the industry. I decided one day the side load the Google camera apk file. Turn HDR mode on, and man was I blown away. The Google camera application is far superior in my opinion! Here's why the Google camera application is so good... I'm no advance photographer at all. I'm in advanced Android user but as far as proof photographer I am not lol... With HDR enhanced mode turn on, any user can take a picture And be confident and they'll get a great amazing sharp and clear picture! So yes, if you have a OnePlus phone, download the Google camera apk file, have fun! I just love pixel software over OnePlus software, plus you can forget instantaneous software updates for at least a guaranteed 3 years after you purchase your phone. And even in the beta program, the test beta software works a little bit more smoothly and reliably versus OnePlus phones. At least, that's what I've heard on the forums. I will say that as far as the Android 11 beta program is concerned, I give OnePlus a lot of credit for opening their phones up to the beta program! Before I bought my Pixel 3 XL, I did heavily consider the OnePlus 6T! One plus is oxygen OS UI I've heard through the forms and through all the YouTubers I follow that their skin is not heavy at all it's highly customizable smooth and fluid. I just love pixel software!

Out of all my phones I use i still think pixel camera is the better one , but Google needs to take the next step they look a little confused right now.

Oh dude, I completely agree with you. Out of all the Android phones I've ever owned in my life, my Pixel 3 XL takes by far the best pictures out of any phone on the market right now. You're right though, Google needs to step it up and introduce something new. I'm not saying it's a wide angle lens necessarily, but some new piece of camera software trickery! Lol

I really like how software and camera work well together but always room for improvement especially the video side .

Yep yep, I love how the camera lens and the software play amazing with each other! Yeah, that's where Google needs to improve upon is the video. I'm not a huge video taker on my phone, so for me, the video quality is fine. however, I can see why other Android users would complain about the video quality on pixel phones compared to Galaxy phones and other Android phones. Then you have iPhones which are the best that video quality in the industry.

Yeah, Samsung and iPhone for video hands down .

Yep yep without a doubt.l I mean here's the thing though, the average user doesn't take damage of video on their phone, or they don't care enough about the video quality on their phone unless you're a vlogger which I'm not and I don't ever intend to be lol. For regular pictures, Pixel remains top dog!

I have to say I do take good amount of videos

Oh well you proved me wrong ha lol I take a couple of videos here and there and the video quality on The Pixel it's good enough for me. But I could see why people would want better quality.

I've always said if I could only buy one flagship a year it would be OnePlus.

Oxygen OS IMO is the best of best worlds. Clean, fluid, you can customize it. OS updates are fairly quick, not that I'm in a rush but definitely faster than Samsung.

I could care less about the camera so it's not an issue but I read they greatly improve it...

As well as the price. LOL

You mentioned installing the APK for the Gcam.... does installing Google's Camera on the phone actually make THAT much of any noticeable difference in picture outcome? Is the final outcome of the photos dependant on the actual camera on the physical device itself?

It might improve some but not much. A big part of the picture quality on Pixel phones isn't just the camera app or even the camera hardware itself. The Pixel phones have other additional hardware that helps computational photography. The Pixel Visual Core on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 and the Pixel Neutral Core on the Pixel 4 have a lot to do with it.

Yes correct I forgot to mention this part. Lol. Pixel visual core in addition to computational photography in addition to the camera app and the camera lens. But on one plus phones the Google camera app will still improve picture quality quite a bit.

I take A LOT of photos so for me a good camera is a MUST! Samsung IMO tends to over sharpen and over saturate the photos.

Just come here absolutely right. All the colors on Samsung phones are oversaturated and too colorful in my opinion. Looking at a Samsung Galaxy phone is almost Like looking at a very colorful iPhone lol. Pixels don't oversaturate photos. All pictures are extremely clear extremely sharp and detailed.

Yes! I had an S7 Edge and while I liked it, it just didn't do it for me.....though it was the gateway phone for me into Android land.
