Looking to disable modem

I have a rooted Fascinate and I'm looking for a ROM or a method to COMPLETELY disable or remove the modem so the phone will function as WIFI only.

I have moved on to a GN but want to keep my Fascinate as a game device, book reader and for streaming music etc. plus it resolves that hassle of my 5 year old wanting to gum up my new phone playing angry birds.

Anyone know of a way to accomplish this?

With some roms you can disable your data connection. I'm not sure how to do it through your settings, but i know you can do it using the power control widget. I'm pretty sure CM7 includes the widget and the settings to do it.

Thanks for asking the question Titanicus Rex, and thanks to the others for the suggestions. I was looking for the same but to use my old phone as a music player because my Sansa clip died. :'(
I'm currently using Harmonia 2.03 build of CM7.2, and discovered the exact settings I wanted. I'm not sure if these settings are specific to this build. Using the CyanogenMod settings - Interface - Notification power widget - Widget buttons settings to add airplane mode toggle and others I wanted, I was then able to swipe down for the status bar widgets and toggled on Airplane mode which turned off phone but also turned off wifi. I then toggled on Wireless yet Airplane mode stayed on, and this effected exactly what I wanted: the phone was completely off (not just data), but wifi was on and connected.
Now I can keep airplane mode on all the time and just toggle wifi when I want it.
