Tomorrow is the day Mar 1st. I can upgrade my phone. I currently have a BB Curve 8530, and before that BB 8330, and so on. I been browsing this forum for the past couple of days. I really like what I hear, Im really not a heavy user but the BB seems more like a business phone not many good apps. Seems like the android phones have plenty of cool apps. The main thing ill be doing is getting personal Emails, and of course downloading apps that fit me. Nothing real serious. Alot of my friends have the orignal Evo and said get that one (199.99) but the shift (149.99) looks pretty good to me from this forum and also on youtube. Is there really any disadvantages except for the screen size? Thanks looking to make the jump 2morrow 10am.

I'm also on the fence, as I have the 8530 BB as well and am eligible to upgrade. The thing is, I really have been happy with the trusty BB. So I keep stalling...

I have always used BlackBerry but decided it was time to make a change.. I absolutely love this phone.

As far as Evo v Shift, I think it's more personal preference.

I went with the Shift for several reasons. 1. Size was a huge factor, I need something I can carry in my pocket. 2. The option of having a physical keyboard (although I rarely use it now that I'm used to the on screen keyboard.) And 3. I didn't want to purchase a phone that was already a year old. I feel more confident in receiving updates on a newer device. Plus my phone wont be a 3 year old device when I still have another year until I'm eligible for an upgrade

I will say that coming from blackberry to Android was a fairly easy transition, and other than the BlackBerry my company provides, I don't see myself going back to blackberry.

I think you will really enjoy a Shift. As far as EVO vs Shift, well, do you want a real keyboard or not? Do you want great battery life (shift) or not? Do you want a really, really big screen or a slightly smaller one with the same resolution? If you can answer those questions, you probably will know exactly what you want.

I have had both I changed to The Shift because I was board with the OG EVO and wanted something new. There are the obvious differences but what I did not expect was the speed of the Shift. The speed combined with the keyboard and smaller size just makes the EVO Shift easier to use I find I am much more productive using the Shift.

I came from an Palm Pre and I love the Android. Lots more features here. The Pre in my opinion isn't even in the same class. I can do so much more. I love the customization of having feeds like twitter, texts from last nite, and the weather integrated on my home screen. I still have a blackberry curve that I use for work, the BB's work great for email/calendaring but that's about it. Like a previous poster said, it has the slide-keyboard but once you get the hang of the touch screen keyboard you'll find yourself not using the slideout keyboard. Especially as you train your touch screen to recognize words that you use, you'll find you can type all over the place, missing letters or using the wrong letters and it will fix the word for you. So, long story short, you'll be very happy with the EVO shift.

Well its been 3 weeks now and WOW!!! im still getting used to it and finding out new things every day. But this phone makes my blackberry look like Fred Flintsone used it, the shift is so much easier to naviagate while on the web searching for things and so much quicker when it comes to everything. Dont know why i didnt jump ship sooner to an android.

I just came from an Curve 8530 and was a big Blackberry fan (had another BB before that one of course) and I am loving my Shift. Coming from Blackberry there were some things to get use to, but not much, and there are things I do like better now.

Things I miss:
-Having BB Messenger (it really is just the best integrated messenger app)
-Push notifications from Twitter and Facebook
-Battery Life (though this is improving on my shift now that I've charged it for a few rounds and may be better then my BB soon)
-Multitasking abilities

Pros:
-The phone is super fast. I've only stalled once and rebooting the phone isn't a question on if I'll need to make a call in the next 15 mins.
-Great Apps and apps I had been waiting to come to BB for 3 years that still aren't there.
-Facebook App is better overall
-Gmail Integration makes up for lack of push email
-Visual voicemail is awesome
-Keyboard took some getting use to but is great
-HD Camcorder and 5mp Camera with flash
-Internet works great and I can watch videos on sites without issues
-Plenty more I'm sure...

Like you I'm glad I made the jump. I still have a place in my tech heart for BB but I'm loving this device.

I also had the og evo first day it was released, then switched to the shift. I love my shift 10 times more because of the speed. Phone is great. And the screen is more sharper but if u dnt have a problem waiting a bit longer or how big the phone is doest not matter hold out for the evo 3d. The specs are amazing

The screen size is a big difference. Also, the original EVO has a front-facing camera for video calls. I see some talk about the Shift being faster. If it is faster, its not by that much. The EVO is still one of the fastest devices you can own.

Much faster how? I played with it in the store and some if the newer Android devices and I haven't seen anything (dual core included) that was much faster than the EVO.

playing with something in a store for a few minutes will not show u a difference in sped. Using it for the past few months i notice all around its much faster. espcially compared to my bros evo. Even hes dropping his evo now. im not knocking the evo still the top player on sprint, but to say this phone is not faster is just a lie

Just make sure when you pick up your OG EVO that you can change back if you want. I would bet that after a few days with the OG your going to want your Shift back. I could be wrong but I think once you feel the difference on performance you wont keep the OG for long.

yeah i know what you mean, i heard that even though the shift is clocked at 800 mhz, that it is a newer processor, so its better in productivity than say, an older 1ghz snapdragon. i like both phones very much though!

Nah, in my area i switched to sprint for a better price for phone service per month, but i wasnt satisfied with the service, so i was within my month of test driving the phones and the network, and the deal was they wouldnt charge me any fees if i brought the pones back before the first 30 days, if.i decided not.to stick with them :/ its a great phone, the service (in my area anyway) isnt stellar. I roamed 3 miles away from my house, and where i roamed wasnt a small deal...places like costco, the mall, main roads..etc.
