Lookout - Necessary Security or Needless Overhead?

Lookout may not use much in the way of resources, but whether it's needed is questionable .Programs like Clean Master and battery savers are virtually useless. After uninstalling both the performance of my Galaxy S4 improved. Unlike a PC an Android wants to fill up it's memory so programs can be quickly retrieved. As soon as Clean Master clears the memory, Android starts filling it again. Battery savers only turn off resources which can be done on your own. The chance of getting a virus is very small. These companies have done a wonderful job of making you feel like their programs are necessary, while at the same time separating you from your money.

Unless you're paranoid or have a thing for downloading and installing dodgy apps, I say you could pass on Lookout. Android malware exists, but so far I haven't heard of drive-by download malware, so you probably don't need it.

Unless you use the other features of Lookout.

Disagree. Security is a process. Nothing is perfect. Many things help.

Like in this mess, they cite Lookout and Avast as able to clean up the mess.

Google Pulls Sketchy Android Apps -- But Not Before Millions Downloaded Them

I have never had a performance or security problem with Lookout on either the S4 or Note 4 or Note 10.1 2014.

In fact, malware attacking Android is far more common these days than ever before and it is increasing. Going without an AV program is increasingly risky.
