Losing SD Card connection when connected to computer

So, this has been happening since the Gingerbread conversion. I have not see this with anyone else, so I am putting this to the AC community to see if this is something they have experienced or knows a fix for...

I have a ton of applications, almost all of which are stored on the SD card whenever possible. Whenever I plug my DX in to my computer using the "USB Mass Storage" option, the SD Card disconnects from the PHONE. I can access the card from the computer just fine... but what happens is ALL icons (of the programs on the SD card) disappear permanently from the desktop of the phone. Obviously, we have 7 screens and I keep them all pretty full with media apps on one, utilities on one, games on two, web based apps on one, etc. Well, when I plug it in using USB Mass Storage, all the icons disappear except for a few. I then have to go through and add them all back to the desktops.

Anybody else have this issue? Is there any fix?

More info, I am on the latest release. I am rooted... but it does this whether I am rooted or not. This began happening after the GB release and I was not rooted at the time.

Help/Thoughts?

Flashing MIUI rom will fix that. ;-)

Cyberchief, happens to me too. I just take my sd card out and use the adapter to use the card reader in my laptop. keeps icons from disappearing, but it's also inconvenient in that you have to shut off the phone etc etc. If someone has some advice other than flashing a new rom, I'd be interested...

I'm curious as to the reasoning for putting many apps on the SD card on a DX. On mine, with almost 100 apps installed, I'm only using 687MB of the available space on my internal memory, leaving 5.9GB free.

The only advantage I can see of moving any of them to the SD card would be for those apps that don't have built-in capability to save their own app data to the SD card, to preserve the data in case I need to do a Factory Reset. Even in that very limited group, I can use Titanium Backup as an alternative to restore them.

Actually, I wish I could utilize some of the the wide open space on the internal memory for something other than apps, since so much of it lays idle and empty.
