Losing wifi connection

I didn't see anyone post this issue yet but my wife and I are both getting this issue on our TBs. I setup our home wifi on the phones wrt54gl with tomato firmware. And the phones will stay connected for a while but after some inactivity it'll still look connected but data is definitely not flowing.

Toggling the wifi off and on will fix it until it happens again, but I'm looking for a more permanent solution.

Still seeing the same issue when I woke up this morning, was hoping after another full charge and a reboot I'd see some changes. However, I'm surprised that I've not seen anyone else with an issue considering I've witnessed it on two separate phones.

yeah I've not had any issues losing any other connection than Wifi. I made whole sale changes in my router config last night and still experienced the same issue.

Changed from WPA + TKIP to WPA2 + AES
Changed my preshared key
Did a site survey and found the least populated channel, moved from 2 to 9
Gave our phones static DHCP leases
Rebooted the router
Removed the wifi connection on the phone and readded it

Still the same issue.

Now on the opposite end of the spectrum, our Cisco 1250 AP we've got here at work I can connect to our WPA2 + AES connection just fine and it doesn't seem to drop from what I've witnessed so far.

So that would probably lead you to believe it's a setup thing on your router. Get rid of the security all together on it for a bit and see if it still drops off. Then add the features you want (WPA, Mac Filtering, whatever) one by one until it starts dropping off again. Voila...culprit.

I have my D-Link Xtreme N Gigabit Wireless Router (DIR-655) setup with WPA2 and I've not had any issues at all.

Had this issue happen yesterday and again today but didn't think anything of it at the time. Noticed that my phone didn't ding when an email popped up in outlook. Looked at it and it still had the wifi symbol and thought it was connected. Tried to open the web browser and it couldn't display the page. Disconnected and reconnected to wifi and it worked fine afterwards.

I'm also having WiFi disconnection problems after inactivity with my Thunderbolt. I'm running Tomato firmware on my Linksys wrt54gl as well.

I've been trying removing all security and just adding in MAC address filters for the time being. That seems to have worked, but obvsiouly isn't something I want to continue to do. I know I need to get an N capable wireless AP at some point, but I really don't want to get rid of my tomato firmware though either.

Might have to just go out and buy a standalone AP and disable the wireless in my WRT54GL.

Hmmm, interesting thought on the Tomato firmware. I'm running Tomato on a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 router and I'm having the same wifi drops on my Thunderbolt. My Tomato firmware version is v1.28.1816. What version firmware are you guys running and what router are you using?
I also wonder if any of the wifi settings on the router can be tweaked to help the situation. I am going to enable Afterburner on the router and see if that helps.

I don't seem to have the same wifi drops at work where we don't have any tomato routers. For what it's worth my Incredible never had any wifi issues on the same router.

I hope we can find a solution, I don't want to change routers just to get this to work properly.

I'm running Tomato Firmware v1.28.1816 on a Linksys WRT54GL. I'm using WPA2 security with AES encryption.

After my Thunderbolt has slept for a while, the router shows the WiFi connection to have been dropped, but the Thunderbolt still thinks it's connected after it wakes back up. Once I toggle the WiFi connection it reconnects and the connection is back up and running.

Did you go to settings>wireless and networks>wifi settings>press the menu button and click advanced and set the wifi sleep policy to never.

Also check out an app in the market called "wifi fixer" there are a few. Check the reviews. Many people have had success. Let us know how u make out.

I've encountered the same problem. The T-Bolt loses the WiFi overnight and won't reconnect unless I cycle the WiFi on/off. Worse, it doesn't use 3x in the meantime, so data applications don't work in the meantime, but there is no notification of this unless you try to use one.

I changed my WiFi configuration from WPA2 AES to WPA TKIP and set up static DHCP (ie: DHPC Reservation) on my router for my Thunderbolt.

One of these changes seems to have done the trick. My Thunderbolt is now holding it's WiFi connection and cleanly reestablishing a connection after sleeping.

So far, so good...

What exactly does this app do? I'm guessing it sends/receives every so often to prevent the wifi chip from sleeping (even though it's set to never sleep)?

Not sure exactly what it does. I assume it monitors your wifi and if it detects a disconnect it reconnects. Total guess though. Mine is still going strong. I haven't had to manually turn wifi off and back on again since installing wifi fixer.

Interesting though we all have Tomato routers!

I've been using wifi fixer for a couple days now at home. I turned notifications on, and it disconnects and wifi fixer reconnects it about 2x an hour. That's pretty sad. Hopefully that will be in the first bug fix list we get. :\

Tomato FTW! I used it for a wireless bridge for about 2 years, and now using it as a WAP on my main level. I have 3 WRT54GL routers -- using 2 right now, with one in the box as a spare for the day I need a new one! Working great!
