Loss of data connection

Silly question for those having problems - have you made sure your PRL and Profile are fully updated?

So, the factory reset from the Sprint store rep did not help. In fact, it made the issue much worse. Yesterday the phone could not get on the mobile network (I could not even make a phone call). What a waste of time! I have realized that people who offer factory reset as a solution have no clue what they are doing!

This time I took my phone to best buy where I have my protection plan. They promptly sent it out to give me a replacement. Fingers crossed that the new unit would not see same issues.

I have the same issue on my att nexus. happens with a few apps. connection self resets after 30 seconds our so.

Wondering if someone can help me out with this. At least once a day I have to reboot my phone because my 3g icon just disappears. I won't get any data until I reboot.

I've done a one click root and then back to a one click unroot (back to stock). Don't know if this matters.

Any advice helps..thanks!
try using the application fast reboot its like actually rebooting the phone by closing and opening back up your programs as if you actually rebooted your phone but with a press of a button and no need to turn phone off

The issue has been happening too frequently for me on my Nexus S, and I have decided to give in and return it. Picking up a new Photon later today...

Interesting that I found this thread today... this thing of temporary loss of data connectivity (sometimes grey-out 3G or vanishing 3G icon althogether) has happened to me a few times prior and after the update. My phone is fully stock, not rooted and I have at the most 15-18 apps tops.

Most times this issue is quickly fixed with a simple reboot, but earlier this week I actually loss signal at work and when I noticed, my battery was hot and almost gone from the phone trying to connect for data sync. I checked with Sprint and there was no signal issues or work going on as in some prior instances. Rebooting several times (even with battery pull) did not resolve the issue so I turned data and sync off until able to get back to a charger. I had to go for full factory reset, and that solved the issue for now.

In my opinion there is someting wrong wih the radio drivers of the NS4G that make it behave in ways no other Android phone I own does. I do not believe is a problem with the radio hardware, a software reset would not fix a hardware problem and at least for me, when the radios work, they work well. I have not been able to isolate any of my apps that appear responsible for this behavior, nor I have noticed any reproducible parameters that cause this behavior - so far seems to be random, like other minor issues I have noticed since I got this phone.

I said it before, and I will say it again... FOR ME, Gingerbread has been the buggiest Android OS release since I started with Android 1.5 on the Hero. I also have experinced some problems with unexplicable signal variability on my Evo since 2.3 OS "upgrade" that it never had on OS 2.2, never to the extent of complete loss of data connectivity as with the Nexus though. When (and IF) the Epic gets an official GB update from Samsung, I will not install it. Hoping ICS does a better job.

for me the specific apps are the amazon app store and the nexus native news app.

I don't use the native news app but I do have and use the Amazon app store. Will keep an eye on this one and see if it happens...

found the issue!

"juice defender" settings disabled amazon app store and native news apps.

I don't remember making those settings, but they were there.

whew, happy my actions might of been the problem.

I had this happen for two weeks when in Orlando Fl, the batteries would go dead in hours. I had to put in AP mode just to save the battery. once back to Northwest never an issue which led me to believe some issue with sprint in the Orlando area..

Agree, there has been some problem with the network causing part of this, however there is something going on with the radio drivers on the Nexus or some issue with GB itself.

I have three phones connected at this time: Nexus S, Evo 4G and Epic 4G. All are under the same signal area at home where I usually have very good service. In recent months I have noticed issues with the signal on all three devices so a call to Sprint confirmed they were doing some maintenance on the area.

In addition to that, I have noticed episodes of complete loss of data signal on the Nexus where the icon grays-out or completely disappears. When that happens I can make/receive calls and SMS but can not access any data services. At the same time, the Epic and Evo are connected to 3G services as usual. This is solved, as stated before, with a reboot; in my last instance, requiring a complete factory reset. This behavior can not be explained with Sprint signal issue as it is not simultaneously happening on the other phones. This has improved significantly since the last update, only happening once this week needing the full factory reset.

I have also noticed significant signal variability on my Evo since the 2.3 update, an issue that was not present before while running OS 2.2. This variability, sometimes causing short lasting 1x data and/or complete loss of data signal happens while the other two phones are not showing similar behavior under the same Sprint signal area. Again, this can no longer be explained by Sprint signal issues, I believe this is a bug within Gingerbread somehow affecting radio performance. On the Evo, this instances usually lasts seconds or a few minutes at most and clear spontaneously; have never lost data signal permanently like in the Nexus needing a reboot of any kind.

My opinion is that in addition to increased area-wide signal problems within the Sprint network, there is some buggy code causing this issue on GB running headsets... my observations are not conclusive or scientific so at this point, this remains a theory of mine.

Today at random times my 3G and signal indicators went white. I had to reboot to get them back.

Thanks for all of the replies..it's nice to know I'm not the only one. Still experiencing this problem daily. Really annoying.

Terrible service today :( getting mainly white bars 1x, 3G is barely there for me at all today, and in my office location I usually get rock solid full green 3G bars. Sprint service has been really ****astic for me in the Chicago_land area this Summer.

Makes me tempted to go Verizon and get the Nexus-Prime. If they get the lock being only carrier for the Prime, I am jumping ship to Verizon. Sure looks like Verizon will be only one getting the Prime, they just declined on the Galaxy S2.

you do realize that the 'green' bars indicate a direct connection to google servers, and white bars are still a FULL data connection, just not directly to google servers?

you are still accessing google services, just not as easy for them to track whatever we agreed to in the EULA.

OK, never heard this before... do have an official link where I can read about this?

As I understand, gray-out data icons means no connection - at least I don't have data connection 1x or otherwise when they are grayed out. Green means working data connection. AFAIK, green icons indicate active data connection, not necessarily to Google.

EDIT: Should have read the manual... you seem to be right, the icon turns green when you have a google account active on your phone otherwise are white according to the user's manual. I stand corrected... p.27 User's Manual.

I loose data connection as well, I go to send a text message and it just hangs during sending. I toggle airplane mode and most of the time it sends after that. I work in a building where I loose connection a lot so I think the problem has soemthing to do with not reconnecting the signal completely.
