Loss of voice recording

I recently tried to install a new battery. Whilst doing this the right hand little black lock thing fell off. So now to compensate i have inserted a small object to hold down the lead. That's possible relevant background maybe not. Anyway, it all works OK except now it does not respond to voice commands and will not record voice on video. It still plays back music etc OK. So i'm thinking I may have disturbed something along the way. Can anybody suggest anything I can try to restore the voice recognition. The only thing Samsung could suggest was factory reset but if its a hardware issue that won't do any good so not keen on that answer.
