Does anyone know how this could happen or how I could diagnose this? I had 72% battery when I turned my phone off. A few hours later, I turned it back on (and the startup animation showed) and when it was done loading, it had only 29% battery!

The battery runs down super fast when on but to lose so much while off makes no sense!

ONLY? If you're constantly charging and discharging your battery for a year, you may need a new one. They're dirt cheap now- worth a try.

I've had this happen a few times. I forget what the reason is supposed to be but if you turn it back off and on again it usually goes back to normal.

I don't think so. All my battery issues started when I "upgraded" to ICS.

I'm just saying.. For the price of an OEM battery (not much), why not eliminate the possibility.. It's a quick test.

Can you post a link to an OEM battery? I've only found ones from other companies. Thanks!

Thanks for the link. I ordered one for my wife and I. 6 bucks each with free shipping.

We've had ours for about a year. I get around 12 hours with fairly heavy use if the signal is good. If the signal is bad, I doubt it would last more than a couple of hours. I'm rooted using the latest nightly from Peter? My wife is running stock ics and rarely uses it. She can easily go 24 hours but she rarely uses it so what's the point?

I have a Nexus S for AT&T and it has been using about 10% battery per hour. Even if I turn the phone completely off overnight the battery will be totally dead in the morning. I have tried a new battery with the same problem. Finally I called Samsung since I had 2 weeks left on the warranty and sent it in for repair. All they did was reflash the ROM to the original version but did nothing to fix this issue. Makes me want to stop using Samsung phones in the future.

When you say original version, do you mean Gingerbread?

Yes, Gingerbread 2.3.4 I9020AUCKE1 GTj61

As an interesting followup I got a survey from Samsung and I expressed my dissatisfaction with their service. They then called me and offered a motherboard replacement under warranty. So if they follow through on that promise I may be able to use my AT&T Nexus S again and will be flashing the Jellybean factory image.

Can you post a link to that survey so I can also express my dissatisfaction?

The survey was linked to the service of my phone. I had called Samsung and subsequently sent my phone in for service and the survey was about that experience so it is not a general survey that anyone can participate in.

i was having battery issues as well. the other night i went to sleep with the batter at 80% and when i woke up it had powered down from the battery going dead. i did a factory reset and now i'm getting almost 18 more hours from my battery!

if you do a reset, give it time to download and reinstall apps and do its syncing. there will be lots of data usage for a few hours after and this will make it feel sluggish as first. give it time to do its thing! i let it go overnight and rebooted it in the morning now the phone feels like new and the battery lasts me almost 2 days

I find it very hard to believe that you have a Nexus S 4G with ICS that gets that many hours of battery life.

And I've done the same factory reset (after installing ICS) and my battery life still sucks.

Mine does too. I used to be able to make it from 7am to about 3 or 4pm. Now I'm usually down in the 30 - 40% range by 11am. I'm getting eager about the next Nexus...hopefully it'll be on Sprint early so I can jump over. This is pretty ridiculous. It was always bad, but this is a joke.
