Lost Google Location Services

Since updating/S-OFF with Moonshine, I coincidentally, I think seem to have lost Google Location Services. This affects multiple apps (including Google Now and Maps itself). It was apparently an acknowledged bug that Google had in a "silent update" of their software, but they claim it's been fixed. This, and the general idea of what Moonshine _probably_ did being entirely separate, makes me think it is purely a coincidence that it happened on the same day I ran the S-OFF. In fact, I probably had not rebooted the phone since I got it before the S-OFF procedure.

No matter what I try -- including checking and re-checking settings and app-versions -- I can't get mine to work again. I have verified that I have Google Play 4.1.10, and have tried the "open play store, wait 2min, reboot" twice already.

If anyone has any further details or ideas for me to try and get Location Services back running (correctly), I would very much appreciate it.

Make sure you only have the Google location button checked. No other services...uncheck the Verizon one and the GPS stand alone one, I do have the Google location and Google Search checked. See if that helps. When mine didn't work on g.now my Verizon one was ticked also

I appreciate that idea. I actually had someone mention this to me somewhere, and did test it. Unfortunately, it didn't help. Also, if it follows the known-issue and this is a fringe case, it shouldn't matter.

Doesn't make a lot of sense that it would be required to do that -- but not everything makes sense, I agree.

Thanks again for the reply.

I didn't check the GPS lock for stock s-off. When flashing ROMs it seems GPS lock is a common issue. I flashed the PAC-man ROM and had the issue. The fix was to turn gps on, make a backup, do a factory reset and flash viper dna, get a gps lock, do a factory reset, and install my backed up PAC-man ROM. That fixed the issue for me.

So maybe you could try flashing Viper DNA. (Don't dirty flash) and who knows, you might like it!

Well, it's not a GPS lock problem (to the best of my knowledge). But that's an eye-opening story!

I primarily use my phone for work. It's exactly the kind of story that makes me shy-away from trying ROMs. I can't afford to "waste" a day or two re-installing apps, sync'ing data, and changing my settings, only to find out that various features don't work. (You'd be surprised how much I value BT, for example -- which I read is somehow not working in one of the current ROM choices.) Then, I guess it takes a few hours to get back to where you left-off with the stock ROM. (I guess it would be a lot easier to backup, test new, and fallback if we had a removable SD, too.)

The backups aren't deleted on a factory reset and I use helium to reinstall all apps and app data. Anything based on CM 10.1 I believe is missing Bluetooth audio, my ROM is cm 10.1 based. I'm going to try it out and look around for fixes and let you know how it goes.

Does nobody know the details of this bug and how it was fixed? I'm willing to dive-in and even re-download apps/data if I can get the details.

Can't believe I'm the only one still having this problem (with Google Play Store 4.1.10).

:((

Make sure you have the latest play store installed. Version 4.1.10

That should fix it.

Yep, it's been 4.1.10 all week. I have tried everything since.

And I don't believe it is really the version of play store that controls the location services. Might be the services framework or similar, but no one has said, nor anything more than check the version and reboot. Not working for me.

Have you flashed any ROMs?

Nope (for better or worse). Just ran moonshine, and enabled the superuser apk that it installs. That's it. I did install TIBackup -- which I have been using on my phones for years without incident, and I can't believe it would have anything to do with this either.

Like I said, I use my phone for work, so until I hear about a complete, nearly-bulletproof ROM alternative, I can't really take the time to mess around with that.

The reason why you probably haven't gotten too much help on this is because you're sitting on stock rooted. Though this is usually much more stable, the GPS is working on most popular ROMs. Nothing is bulletproof, even stock unfortunately. Keep looking around. Maybe post in the moonshine thread.
