lost network connection

I suddenly lost my network connection with Verizon. I pulled the battery and did a soft reset nothing is working. the guy at Best Buy put in my iPhones SIM card instead of give me a new 1 do you think that could be a problem? Sorry for the poor punctuation I'm driving and doing Google Voice which works incredibly.
