Lost the back-piece, no longer receive signal

I lost the plastic back-piece that covers the sim card and battery. The phone can still operate but I no longer receive phone service. I'm hoping HTC will replace it for me but I'm wondering if there is a temporary fix that I can do myself in the meantime. If I move the plastic piece that keeps the battery in place and push down on the spot underneath, I can get signal again. Any ideas?
