Lost the butter with 4.2.2

Just wondering if anyone is experiencing a loss of the 'buttery smooth' performance. Not to say that the phone lags in other areas, but since updating to 4.2.2 it definitely feels like I'm back on ICS when scrolling the home pages and app drawer. I'd like to know if it's just me or are others seeing what I'm seeing?

Have you tried a different launcher? If you are truly using a Galaxy Nexus, they are probably using TouchWiz for a launcher. Try downloading Nova. Free on Play, and I love it!!!! You can take customizing to a whole new breed of awesome! And you don't have to be rooted.

The Galaxy Nexus (as with all Nexus devices) uses stock Android, not Touchwiz, Sense, or any other OEM interface.

The Galaxy Nexus runs stock Android, but I understand that "Galaxy" might've confused you (and Samsung did manufacture it) But remember, the Nexus name means stock Android UI. No layered skin over top of it.

That being said, you folks can blame Verizon if the update slowed things down. Folks with the GSM Gnex never had issues I don't believe.

Correct. Although the Verizon version of the Galaxy Nexus runs "stock" Android, Verizon has still made changes to it, like crippling Google Wallet, tethering, etc. These limitations can be overcome by rooting the device.

GSM/non-carrier-branded devices don't have to deal with those issues, and get updates directly from Google.

It's possible that whatever Verizon did to the update prior to it being pushed to your device could have impacted performance. Without a side-by-side comparison, it's difficult to quantify.

I just received the official OTA and I don't see a difference in lag or anything like that. I have less bars it seems and I will do some LTE speed tests today and then go back to 4.1.1 and compare the two to see if it is real or just how 4.2.2 is reporting the signal strength.

So far today, the LTE speed tests I have done since receiving the official 4.2.2 OTA are in line with the 4.1.1 LTE speed tests I did earlier before I received the OTA but the bars are less.

I came from an iPhone and love my note 2. It is my first Android so I havnt experienced anything other than jellybean. As much as I live my note it needs plenty more butter to be as slick as my iphone was.

I get about the same battery life as before the update... maybe a bit worse.

My battery life is HORRIBLE. Just about 5 hours from unplug to shut down after the 4.2.2 update using the EXTENDED battery. WTF?!?!?

My battery life noticeably went downhill once Jelly Bean 4.1.1 was installed. I am going to try a custom kernel after I decide whether or not to keep the new radios.

And a new phone is on the way.....aargh. When will I ever get a reliable device??

So pretty much what you're saying is... You're getting the same readings. But the display reads lower on 4.2.2?

This is common with software updates; unfortunately the most common "fix" is to do a factory reset and then re-download and install the update. This of course erases data, settings, pictures, music, etc. so if you choose that route, offload the stuff you want to keep or checkout apps like Carbon, etc. first.

There's probably nothing wrong with the device. People are too OCD about indicators. As long as you aren't getting dropped calls, who cares what the signal bars say? They're only an approximation anyway.

as mentioned before... After the update, my phone has been buggy... But after a few factory resets..
Phone has been working flawlessly..

For users that are having similar issues, try doing some factory resets and wait 24hrs... I think the new OS needs to "settle" in after downloading....

I haven't had any issues ever since resetting.
I just have a reception displaying a lower reading.

I used to think my Nexus 4 on 4.2.1 was super smooth until I got my Blackberry Z10. Wow, what a difference. Apparently, Android was never really all that smooth, even on 4.2.1.

How well does it run the ported over Android apps? The 50k or so? Haha I kid. But the simpler the OS, the smoother it'll be. Android has widgets and a bunch of other complications. That's why with the Nexus, they come essentially bare bones..nothing compared to the multitude of features that the Galaxy line has. BB has what? Its a smooth OS but still basic. Same with iPhone. That's fine and all, but I experience barely ANY lag on my Nexus 4 while still maintaining the freedom I have to tweak if I want.

Well put.. I totally agree with you.

Actually it's mostly on Android using Java. Interpreted languages run far slower than, say, C. The JVM (Dalvik) does a lot of checking between each line for "safety" that C doesn't have. That's why the Z10 and iPhone are usually faster.

I'm considering a Q10 myself but I do like the Nexus line a lot...

same... lost the butter. will try a rest and let you know the results. hell, if um gonna reset I might as well finally root as well.

Wow. This seems like a big issue if this many people are having a problem.
