Love it but...missing a couple of things from my berry

I've made the switch and the learning curve is not too bad. I've gone from the BB storm to the Optimus V.

However, there are a couple of things I miss...or maybe haven't figured out yet.

*The Delivered/read notification from bbm (and the hug smiley too). I've converted to gtalk but it doesn't show these options
*An auto inserted period when pressing space bar twice.
*being able to change the font size (these old eyes are what they used to be)
*custom dictionary (I think that is what it was called) - like when you type "wer" and then space you got "we're". Or I set up "gn" space - to give me "goodnight"

If anyone has options/suggestions for these, I'd be most grateful.

Other than that, so far, so good. :)

Try ultra keyboard.
It has a built in dictionary that you can add to.
It also has the double space period you want.
It also has swype features to it.

Give it a shot.

Look in my app brain list for the link.

BTW welcome to the forums!

Yea, one thing you're gonna learn is Android is made for customization. So a lot of features are not built in..You need to download Apps. SmartKeyboard Pro is also a good option. It uses the T9 keyboard that BB uses.

I am giving the ultra keyboard a try first. I can't for the life of me get the replacement text option to work. Am I missing something?
Is says, for example, that "ttyl" will be replaced with "talk to you later".

at the top of the keyboard it will have your word in red and it's suggestions in black.

I am not rooted so I am installing SDK on my pc to take a screen shot to show you.

:confused:I think something isn't right with the install. Screen shots would be great. The app indicates that the keyboard will change to a different format in portrait than when in landscape. I'm still seeing a full keyboard in portrait.

I will use a camera to take photos of my phone if I can't get sdk....

I am just so against rooting and voiding a warranty.

You can change this in options....
maybe me doing a video would help....
Just have to give me time...at work now and sick kid when I get home.

I will send you screen shots tomorrow to show you how the app is setup on my DINC. Also the developer does respond to emails. He is very good about that!

lornaevo ...Thanks for the suggestion. I checked out smart keyboard. I'm not seeing an option to add things to the auto text dictionary. I have things that I used often that I would like to add. Am I missing this feature?

tony ...take your time. :)

Loading images now.

It will show you what you type in red, it's suggested word in bold and other options in black.

Okay:

Image one shows how it pops up in landscape (you can change the layout in options)

The rest of the shots are options I set.

A picture sure is helpful! My settings are the same but the keyboard doesn't show the icons above they keys nor do I get the suggested words as you are showing. Do I have to "turn off" the android keyboard or something. I guess I was assuming it was a toggle.

Feeling quite foolish here. This shouldn't be this difficult. lol I appreciate the help.

if you long press on a text input box, there should be a box popup that asks you for your preferred input keyboard. or just go in to settings , keyboard/languages and all your available keyboards will be listed and you can choose which one you want for default. each keyboard app will have its own settings area to press and you can configure it how you wish. with Smart Keyboard, there is an option under "text prediction" that allows you to set it up anyway you want. has also an area for "user dictionary" and has "custom auto text" where you can set up your own text shortcuts

ah ha! It was the swype that was the culprit! Thanks gvc! When I did the long press it showed toggle options as opposed to the check boxes available in the settings menu. I didn't realize that I was creating a conflict.

Thanks to you all I can now adequately evaluate which keyboard will work for me. :D
